The jokes goes like this; "two Remington 700 30-06 rifles in pretty rough shape walked in to a gunshop with a $100 bill".

Anyway the punchline is I am the proud owner of a new in the box 70 Safari Classic in 375.

An guy ordered it and never picked it up so they sold it for what he had left on layaway. Love stuff like that.

My left handed Model 70 Classic Safari Express is my favorite rifle.

I bought the two 700s as project guns. I think I am done with this mentality. I hope I am done with this mentality. I pray that I am done with this mentality.

The gunsmith had bedded it and adjusted the trigger, the guy never picked it up and it has been there for almost 8 months. I asked if they ever got 375's and they said they had one in the back and told me the story.

They called him, he quit answering his phone and never picked it up. Weird deal.

I think he had about $300-400 into it. They didn't say and I didn't ask.

If I can get the Warne mount off I am going to send it up to Chad Dixon in Sturgis for a muzzle brake with a matched weight knob replacement and 8x40 screw hole installation. He does them with a CNC machine.

Always nice when you run into a deal like that. I picked up a Remington 660 .308 for a pretty good price that looked like it may have had only a box of shells through it. It was pretty much new. I like those little Remington's for our western Washington blacktails. Problem is when I got home with my new prize my wife looks at it and thanks me for buying her a new rifle. Hard to argue with that. Roll Eyes

Oh and I love my M70 .375 but mine was new so no price break - enjoy.

You might want to shoot it a bit before you put a brake on it. You may decide that the brake is not really necessary.

Agreed
I have a couple .375's and to be honest they don't need brakes. Really give it some thought before you do that.
My .375's are both Win M70 one a stainless classic and the other a Super Grade your Safari will be heavier than either of those. Recoil should not be an issue.

Insp/mic a piece of fired brass to ensure that it is round & that head space is somewhat correct before sending it off to have it molested.

Quite a few of the Win70 chambers are definitely out of spec.

I agree that there is no brake needed on the Safari Express. Mine's a pussycat with 235 through 300 grain bullets. I shoot it off the bench all day doing load testing.

I'm confused (that's normal). Is this a Model 700 or a Model 70?

Bill, I traded two pretty rough 700s for a NIB FN built 375 made in Portugal.

Sounds like typical gunshop re-tread junk.

Avoid it, unless you've got more money than sense.
