fredj338solid & softs - POI
I got to the range today & did alittle work w/ the .404. My .380grNF loads are shooting great, several groups coming in just over 1" I had sim. results w/ the 400gr Barnes solids. My dilema is the solids shoot about 2 1/2" lower than the NFs. Is this really an issue? I haven't tried other powders to adjust the POI. I'm hoping Mike gets some solids done in .423 before I head to Moz. in Sept. IF not, the 400gr Woodleigh shoots almost as well & the POI is almost identical to the solids.

phurleyI just went through that with my .416 Rem. My 370 grain North Forks were one inch over bullseye at 100 yards. When I got the solids from Mike my first three shots printed in one oblong hole, however the group was 9 inchs low and 4 inchs right of center. I had used my normal .416 Rem seating die, which seated the solids considerably lower in the case than the softs. I used my .416 Rigby seater die and the OAL was much further out. I then adjusted the depth to bearly clear the magazine, this raised the group back to within one inch of the softs, which I can live with. This was my experience, for what it is worth to you.

Good luck and good shooting.

fredj338The diff. is @ 100yds, vel. within 50fps. I haven't tried varying depth or powder charges yet. How much is an acceptable diff. for you guys? I think I could live w/ the bullets hitting 2" lower as long as they have the same windage.
