Does anyone remember a lever gun produced by Browning maybe ten years ago? I think it was a copy of the 1886 Winchester and it was offerd in .45/70. Any info would be appreciated.

Hi Homebrew
I just happen to have a 1992 Browning Dogalogue

Limited Edition Model 86 Carbine
In the early west, hunters desparately longed for a repeating rifle with the power to consistently take big game.Winchester realized the opportunity to carry such a rifle and consequently paid John M Browning "more money than there is in Ogden(Utah)" for the rights to produce the 1886 rifle. This was Brownings first lever action repeater design to be manufactured. As quoted from Phillip Sharpes book "The rifle in America","the Winchester Model 1886 action is probably the smoothest job ever developed in a lever action gun,it functioned practically without effort and in operation cannot be compared with any lever gun ever produced..."

True to the original design. The new 1886 Carbine is virtually identical to the original. It features a full length magazine, classic style forearm with barrel bands, saddle ring, adjustable folding leaf rear sight,22" barrel and metal, cresent butt plate.Like the original it comes in 45-70 Govt.

Limited addition Grade1
Only 7000 of thses classic carbines will be produced.Wood is select walnut. All exposed metal surfaces are deeply blued.

Limited addition High Grade
Production of these handsome carbines is limited to 3000.The high grade walnut stock and forearnm have finely cut checkering. The barre and magazine tube are deeply blued. The receiver and lever are grayed steel, embellished with elegant scroll engraving.Appropriately engraved on the receiver are game scenes of elk and American bison with the species highlighted by a unique gold plating and engraving process.

Barrel-22"
overall length-40 3/4"
~weight-8lbs 3oz
Magazine capacity-8
Sights -open buckhorn type

Browning Model 71 and Model 1886 both in standard grade and high grade. Winchester and Browning are the same company now and the Model 1886 is still being made in limited quantities under the Winchester name. I got a new Winchester 1886 Extra Light that was made in 2000. Good luck.
