In anticipation of some new varmint rigs to go along with my 600 OK, I have ordered a few different types of 585s from various sources.

I was thinking that the Woodleigh 650gr soft made for the 577 BPE would make a nice "splat" when meeting up with mellons of various sizes and shapes. Any other good choices for maximal entertainment of a group of teenage bwana-be's this Fall?

Paul, during our development of our all copper hollow point bullets for the 600 OK, we tried several different copper alloys and heat treating methods. One we came across caused the bullet ( 810 grains ) to split end to end into four petals of aprox. 200 grains each. The penetration wasn't so good but the effect on our test media was cataclysmic. We still have some of the alloy; I will make some bullets up for educational purposes only.

Get some of Mac's turned solids.
Get some KDM heat treated lead. They take
high velocities, and are less cost than any
others.Ed

Dr P,

thought about getting some of my cast stuff and drilling hollow points about large rifle primer diameter and 1/3 the length of the slug? The fun part is replicating the old 50-110 load that did that and then set a primer in the nose.
Bombs away!!

Rich,

Based on your reloading advice, I get the impression that you and Wayne are conspiring to do away with me. If so, let me just say that my 600 OK as well as my 585AHR (in progress) and 577BHE/577BME (in planning stages) are already willed to my children. If my daughter is half as good a shot as her mother (who hates guns but is one of those naturals with one), you had better keep your distance - she actually likes me and might not take kindly to somebody blowing up her foolish daddy.

P.S. What's the word from Dave?

Hi Ed,
Mac and I have traded emails and I will be getting some of his fine bullets.

How's the reamer quest going?

I've done it before in my 45-70 Sharps. Put 10gr of 4Fg in the cavity and the primer inset about .040". We make gravel out of boulders.
Besides, how do you know she wouldn't rather be a rich heiress?
