Just thought it was neat. A couple months ago I saw a ruger magnum rifle at a gun shop chambered for 505 gibbs. I believe they were rebored from 416 rigby.
the guy there said they had five of them done.

Yeah,

Bwana Ron had a lay over, I took him to Great Northern Guns and we fondled one of the Bowen conversions as well as some other large bores. I especially like the engraving that states, "505 Gibbs, A Rifle for Big Game" You are correct, it is the M77 magnum 416 that was bored .505" and chambered for the 505 gibbs, and done as a group of 5. I believe they still have one left, possibly two. As I recall the sticker was $2500.

PS, I swung by at lunch time, tag says $2495, and the stock is very plain. I also fondled a CZ 416 Rigby, while folks may not care for the look of the stock, the irons come up right where they should.

Thank you Paul, i wonder if the ruger recoil lug system will hold up to the 505 Gibbs?

over.40,
Very good point. When I had my Ruger rebored to .475 and chambered for the 470 Mbogo the recoil system became a problem. One problem was the magazine box. Upon recoil the rounds in the magazine box would drive the box forward into the little tit that Ruger has on the bottom of the receiver that aligns the magazine box. The solution is to glass bed the front of the magazine box so that it can't travel forward. The recoil also spilt the stock ahead of the trigger assembly. The solution here is to remove a pocket of wood and glass bed in a 10-32 screw and nut that acts as a hidden cross bolt. I installed two of these to stop the flexing of the stock in the magazine box area. It seems to be working perfectly now. Also as a side note when I was down at Cliff LaBounty's shop picking up my barrel he had another Ruger 77 Mk 11 that he rebored to .585 470 Mbogo
