Just picked up a Winchester Mdl 70 Safari Express in 375 H&H. I have Leupold VariX II in 2-7 I to mount on it. Which QR rings and which bases do you recommend? "There are worse memorials to a life well-lived than a pair of elephant tusks." Robert Ruark

I recommend Talley as a very good compromise of appearance, strength, repeatable zero, price, and staying out of the way of the loading port. The Leupold QR system used to hang over the loading port which is a NO-NO IMO. Some of the Weaver style also hang over the loading port. Talley does not. As for strength, I have used Talley on .585 nyati and they held up perfectly.

I use warne, work fine for me and they are pretty easy to get. Talleys are really nice, not sure why I don't use them also. Billy, High in the shoulder (we band of bubbas)

Over on brockmans web site, you will see a new base he has for the model 70. It takes tally QD,s and has a spring loaded peep that pops up when the scope is detached. not for everybody, but i want one...tj3006 freedom1st

I have Talbot ringsand bases...On my 375..The first scope is a LPS Leupold in 1.5 / 6X 30mm tube with 42mm objective, and I have a second set of rings to put my Leupold 3.5 to 10X 30mm tube illuminated red dot German 4 crosshairs.. There is no turning to remove push one pin and pull back and remove extremely fast.. Mike

I can second the vote on the Talbots. I've had Talbots on my M70 classic Lott for 6 or 7 years and I believe they are the fastest Q/D mounts out there. Try the web site for Answer Products in Davison Michigan or Williams Gunsight also in Davison. I believe both places handle and install them. I do believe Talbot lives in the area. Geronimo

Scott, that's them...US military use...I have had them since 01 when I put them on my 375 and he improved the design and Al gave me the new base and rings for my exishing rifle and I paid for the new set of rings for the illuminated Leupold... They are on alot of tactical rifles... If your not in a hurry I will bring mine to Dallas to show you... Mike

Retreever, Is the Talbot base for a WIN70 Safari Classic a one-piece design? If it is one piece, When the scope is removed does the base hangover or block the loading port in any way? Can you grasp and carry the rifle by the scope like you can when using a 2-piece base, or does the Talbot base prevent you from doing this? I like the idea of quick removal of the scope but don't wish to obstruct the loading port when the scope is removed. Thanks, Gary

SBT, I'd give a real serious look at the Talley rings and bases. They offer repeatable zero (make sure no sand is in bearing surface). Kenny Jarrett has used the same set of QR rings for over a decade, and they still mount to all the new rifles being tested. Well over a million rounds and numerous scopes later, the Talley rings yield a lock up that gives him the well known sub moa accuracy. You will never remove/reinstall rings that much. They were recently involved in a gov't test. All other rings including some Picatinny rail sets were stressed to failure. The Talleys did not fail before the test was stopped. Last but not least, they look nice. Only use Talley bases or the Brockman as the tolerances between recoil lugs is critical. Safe Hunting Clint

By the way, Yes, Kenny Jarrett uses more than one set of the Talley rings, but the oldest is well documented to have over a million rounds, and these days you won't find any other rings on his test scopes. http://www.talleyrings.com Safe Hunting Clint

Talley QD rings and bases. I also have Brockman's rear Talley base with the pop up ghost ring and love it.\ John

In my custom 404 J on winchester M-70 action, I installed talley bases. They have worked wonderfully for me. Ignacio Colomer
