Well, again, I received good information on this forum that proved out its worth.

Basically, some may remember my previous posts on the subject, I bought a .458wm about a year and a half ago, began reloading and was enjoying the gun and process immensely. Reading this forum I have heard the praises and curses of the CZ 550 safari. In this instance it was the concern voiced about splitting stocks that caught my attention. At first I thought people were crying wolf but inquired and received good advice from Atkinson, OldSarge, PC, and many others.

I recently decided to convert my wm to a Lott after good advice from forum members. (I know the w/m is enough but I like the additional flexibility and power of the Lott) In this case my thanks go to Shakari, Nickudu, burninman921, and again many others. My local gunsmith did not have the experience on DG rifles and therefore did not have my confidence. I was then guided to a gunsmith in nearby Fayetteville GA by a post from JudgeG and a confirmation from ready on the right.

The gun was taken to Mr. Roger Ferrell last week for the re-chamber and I voiced the concern over the stock. He just called me to let me know that my stock had indeed begun to split. However it was correctable with a little work and that he would bed the stock for prevention of future problems. Problem solved and money saved in the nick of time..

I would like to thank the members mentioned and the many others not listed by name who have provided me with advice on these and other subjects. The cumulative effect of the insight, wisdom, experience and solutions provided by this forum and its members is greatly appreciated. This forum is not only enjoyable for the debate of subjects it has, in many instances, solved real problems and saved me money.

Finally, thanks to Saeed and his team that made this forum available.

Happy hunting everyone,

M. Widener

I'm glad you are happy, so far, with Roger Farrell. I visited him about a year ago looking for someone to put together a 416 Rem Mag using the 1999 action I have on order. After spending a little time with him and seeing some of his work I decided to let him build my rifle, now if we can only get the left-handed action. Let me know how your project turns out, if it shoots as good as his other work looks you should be pleased. One question, Roger favors full length barrell beading, I'm not too sold on that idea, did you go with that method?

What does a rechambering like that typically cost (from 458 WinMag to 458 Lott)?

It's fun to build-up a rifle just to your needs and tastes.

The rechamber and restamping of the caliber was priced at 125-150. The stock work at 150. I haven't picked the rifle up yet but I think it will be finished this week.

Now if that brass I ordered would come in I can get things rolling.
