I gotta used 416rem.safari express the other day and the claw on the bolt is buggered on the end like someone maybe dropped it off a cliff.I remember reading somewhere that the claw can be upgraded to a better/more dependable claw. Can anyone recommend a replacement? Also i want to start off with low power rounds in the 375H&H recoil area and work my way up to the full house loads, what powder will be the best to keep the case full enough so i dont have to worry about hangfires or stuffing cotton in it?I was thinking about starting with 350gr.speer & 300gr.barnes or some 340 woodleighs or trophy bonds, who else am i leaving out to try there bullets to see what she likes?Nosler?.A fellow at the local gun shop recommend hogdon for everything under the sun....I mainly will be bear/hog hunting with the old rifle. With lowest/safeist powder charge starting out how much velocity should i expect with the powder recommened in the 416remmie?1900fps.?This round is all totally new to me but have heard you guys all love the 416 family so i have to try one out and see what all the excitement is about. The 416 fever is catching/contagious needless to say!I hear it is a pretty good varmint round also especially BIG varmints!Should be great fun on wild boar!

Go to Williams Firearms Company extractors and order a couple. I installed these on my M-70s in about five minutes, and I don't have to worry about them again. As for reduced loads, check the reloading manuals (or the powder companies' web sites) for data. None of them use fillers. George

My favorite reduced load is 76 grs of reloader 15 with the 350 gr speer bullet. Its around 2400fps.I have shot around 1200 of these loads.I also have an express winchester in 416 rem mag.Its very accurate.I want a fiberglass stock to lighten it up.I also have two Remington big game rifles in 416 rem mag they are 7.5 pounds. The HS stock on them kicks way less that the wooden stock on the winchester.

I handled one of those custom shop remington rifles yesterday. It had the Gray kevlar type stock, man that thing was nice!It was a 375.The fellow that had just bought it said he was going to south africa with a hunting buddy and they were going to hunt all the plains type game and cape buffalo!I got to thinking later on about that stock and wood.I thought about the worse case and being slung around by a wounded cape and how maybe your rifle could get stepped on and broken or when it hit the ground from sailing in the air! With the wooden stock rifle if your stock broke you would have to crawl over to your rifled action and just shoot it any way you could,Pitch fork it,but with the kevlar type it probley wouldnt even scratch it hardly? That type stock could possibly saveyour life or your friends?I like to DEPEND ON MY SELF in tight s[pots like that and not worry/bank about some one pulling me out by my shirt tail.Besides in close quarters your guide could be taken out first and you would be in deep stuff! I read one time were 2 fellows had to shoot a buff some thing like 18 times to finish it off, it wanted to go down fighting like hell!!!!! I have seen smaller animals many times that just didnt want to give up the ghost and required all kinds of fire power to finish them off .I couldnt imagine some thing really big trying to tear you up and you just cant get him to go down/stop no matter what you hit him with or how many number of times! That has got to be a nightmare!!! Anyone ever have to fight it out with some of those Dangerous man killers?Man i sure would like to hear that story.......Anyway i love good walnut stocks and I figure i would live dangerous and take my chances and hunt with my wooden stock and maybe for insurance have a 454 pistol in my boot!!!And a damn sharp as shit BIG RANDALL KNIFE tied around my neck!!!!!!!
