Does any one have a copy of the Hornady load data for the 416 Rigby in 400 sp . I will be utilizing IMR 4831, CCI 250 mag rifle primers and Norma brass. Any help is appreciated.

I don't have the Hdy data.

But my favorite load is 102.0 grains H4831 with a 400 gr bullet in the 416 rigby for just over 2400 fps.

The Fifth Edition Hornady manual shows that out of a Ruger 77 with 24" barrel, IMR 4831 loads start with 75.5 grains for 1900 fps and max out at 91.2 grains for 2300 fps.

Interestingly, H 4831 starts at the same charge and velocity, but tops out at 98.6 grains for 2400 fps.

Thanks for the response
I was looking at the A-Square book on the 416 Rigby and they have a 400 gr bullet with 97 grs of IMR 4831 resulting in a avg vel of around 2403 fps. So is there such a great difference in just utilizing a different 400 gr rn projectile to see a gap of 6grs of powder usage?
Just more confused

It depends on what type of brass you use(internal capacity), the length of bullet(softs or solids), size of your particular chamber, and finally the length of your throat. Does that confuse you any further? It only took me 30+ years to figure that one out.

John: I offer you to try 90.2gr of IMR 4350 with 400gr Hornady RNs,solids or Swift A Frames. They shoot one ragged hole out of my 416 Ruger-Rigby. Velocity is advertised to be right around 2400 fps. jorge

I use a Lee Factory Crimp Die that they made for me. I don't know the spec exactly, but it's not as excessive as a factory crimp like the one you might find on factory ammo. jorge
