I just bought a 2.5 power Bushnell Banner scope off a friend last week. It has a nicer recticle than the 2.5 weaver that's on my Taylor now, thicker duplex, but I don't know if it will stand the recoil. It is made in Japan if that helps, and the gun weighs around 8.5 lbs.

I wouldn't hold high hopes for it, but you never know. Someone might have actually built it correctly.

Keep count of the rounds fired, just in case.

I give it 50 rounds.

Just kidding. Hope it works out for you. 8.5# in that caliber will start to get your attention.

NBHunter I had a Bushnell Banner 2.5x scope on my first centerfire rifle, a 44Mag Ruger Deerstalker, this was many years ago. I am sad to report that the 44Mag "shook" the reticle loose.
I realize that semi-autos can be harder on scopes.... but I think I would try a Leupold.

Yeah,

get a compact 2.5x leupold. You do not want a failure when it counts.

Bushnell, on a 416?

hmmm, tell us if it makes 20 full power rounds, please... But, in all honesty, the taylor doesn't kick but 40-50lbs, so it might live a little longer

Long ago when I wasn't nearly as smart as I am now [Big Grin] I bought one of those scopes for a 243 because it was cheap. The scope didn't make it through deer season!!. I have a Taylor with a 1.75X6 Burris & I'm thinking of going 2.5x8 Leopold. IMHO the Banner won't hold up.

I didn't think so. Just wanted to how quickly a dozen people would convict me of "scope murder". [Big Grin] [Big Grin] I bought it for my Ruger 10/22 but wondered how long it would last on the heaviest gun I own.

Copied this off another board . Just because it says Bushnell it may not be as bad as you'd expect .

"This guy's father was semi-retired and living on the same property. He'd been a control hunter for the Zimbabwe Parks dept. for many years, his favorite rifle a pre-'64 .458 with a 2-1/2X Bushnell from the 1950's. He showed me the rifle and scope. Both also had 80% of their finish missing, but the scope was still very shootable. He'd killed several thousand head of buffalo and elephant with it, no problems. Those early Bushnells were evidently pretty good scopes! "

Try the Bushnell out , you never know it might be a good one . I doubt you're risking a whole lot if it comes apart . [Big Grin]
