What kind of penetration does the Woodleigh 350gn .423 SP at about 2330-2350 FPS get? Not for Buff but used for shortish range, 220 yrds or less PG. I'm pretty sure broadside on anything no prob, but for raking angle shots. What king of penetration can one expect? I know they can be ran faster than that in the 404J & prob even in the 10,75x68. But at a moderate velocity wondered what they can do. Allen

I would also be interested in hearing if anyone has personal knowledge on this. My experience with .423 bullets is that they are made for big stuff, with metal and jacket that don't deform easily on smaller targets - so I would anticipate that even with the 350 grain bullet penetration would be excellent, while expansion would be minimal. I have shot several hogs with 400 grain Hornady DGX at 2360 fps, and gotten performance similar to what you would expect with a solid.

If a flatter trajectory is tha goal I'm sure the 350's can take 2300-2400 fps in moderate sized animals. However, I will use my trusted 400grs Woodleigh's in my 404 for everything from roedeer to moose&buff's M

I've used .416 450gr Woodleigh SP on 4 buff with good results. All stopped inside but most just before the far side, even after going through shoulder and ribs etc. most kept their petals but not all. Fairly mild loads at about 2200fps. Haven't tried the lighter ones.

I shot a moose with a quartering away shot with a 10.75x68 and that bullet at 2300 fps. I lost the bullet it the gutpile, but liver and lungs were toast. I would call it soft enough for plains game.
