DID YOU Rebarrel it with? I just got a call from my smith who said my bbl is soooooo burned out it's gotta go. I have probably pushed over 5000 rounds through it over the years and it WAS shooting a little sloppy. The action is a Winchester pushfeed from circa 1980 or so. Looking at a Douglas number 5 profile. but open for suggestions. NEVER fear the night. Fear what hunts IN the night.

I wouldnt ever sell a gun like that.......

LC Bruce must be loving you about now . First having him put that truck axle on your Weatherby and now your H&H is about to undergo surgury too. I can't help you on chambering choices, as I stayed with the same chambering when I roasted my -06 barrel. I'm going to be loading for my 375H&H here shortly, so I would like to pick your brain for load suggestions sometime.

THE LIGHTEST I have loaded for the .375 were 220gr hornadies. I was smoking them out failry well though because I was using the loads for brake demo up at Second Chance. I would go through about 500 rounds in a week and they were cheap pills to run down range. Otherwise I run usually 250-270 gr loads. Yeah, Brue called me today to let me know the take off bbl I bought was crap so we were kicking around the possibilities. I don't do stainless except for the truck axle. I asked him if he had it done yet and he just laughed. Said he was waiting for his strength to return from the holiday activities before he has to start handling the "axle". Said he would take another look to see how much of the bbl he would have to cut because the throat was burned soooo badly he might try to reset it and see what happens. If it doesn't work, we can always order a new one. Its not like it's a 1000yd rifle. NEVER fear the night. Fear what hunts IN the night.

Hummm Full length truck axle plus a Bruce brake ought to tame the recoil for ya (and count as a upper body workout to boot). Bruce's brake works quite well, IMHO, I had one on my origional -06 (Lt. mag equiv. handloads)and it kicked like a bolt action .223 with it on. I'm leaning towards the 250gr Sierra slugs.

New barrel's not gonna do ya any good. You should probably sell it to me as scrap and get a new one. I don't think I've ever shot out a barrel. At least not yet. Got a Win 30.30 once that was toasted when I got it. Traded it for my Weatherby. If it were me I would stick with the same caliber unless you just want something new and different. If that's the case then the sky's the limit.

that action will handle the .375 H&H, the .416 Rem, the .458 Lott, and the .470 capstick if you wish to consider other choices. However the 7MM STW, the .300 Weatherby, the .340 weatherby as well as the .375 Weatherby might also be considered. In the .375 H&H I've used both Douglas and Shilen #3 contours with good results. However the weight is something you must decide for yourself. The lighter barrels make a very fine carry gun for me as I much prefer the lighter gun. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." IT'S THE only .375 I have and I don't really have any plans for anything that requires something bigger right now. Already have a couple of .340s (the "truck axle" is really a Shilen stainless HEAVY I am rebarreling the Mark V .340 with) and for my BIG BORE, my 45/70(yeah, I know) will take care of my present needs in North America. I will upgrade when I win "the hunt". Actully I WAS looking at my Cartridges of the World last night and thinking of the 45 Watts Magnum. Nothing but a .375 case necked up to .45 More steam then the Lott. I might build one eventually, I already have LOTS of .375 brass. will probably build it on the magnum CZ action since I can get them through Brownells. NEVER fear the night. GUNSMITH called again last night, sia the bbl was too toasted to set back. Decided on a Douglas chrome moly in #5 profile. Now all I have to do is settle on the length I want it. I am a fan of shorter bbls and the previous tube was 20" with no loss of performance ... better living through chemistry, or handloading. NEVER fear the night. Fear what hunts IN the night.
