Big Bore Optics
Is there a scope in the $200-$300 range that will withstand the recoil of something on the order of a 458 Win Mag? And since this is not a particularly long range caliber, what is a good reticle to use?
I was looking at scopes this evening thinking of a future project and wondering about this. I am thinking I want a variable low powered scope.
Which do you guys prefer?
Thanks,

500grainsLeupold 2.5x is the most reliable by far, IMO. The European scopes are too heavy and will slide in almost any ring. The variable American scopes are just not as reliable as fixed power. If you must have a variable, however, I would get a Leup 1.5-5. However, better to just use a Leup 2.5 fixed and you will never had to worry about it.

jeffeossotasco titan, 1.24x4 ... it's a 30mm, and you can get them for under 200 bucks

500grains,
I not averse to a fixed 2.5. I will have a look at the Leupold.
Jeffe,
Where?
Thanks,
I second 500 grains comments. I have one on my 458 Lott after going through two much more expensive variables. Get the heavy duplex retricle.

tiggertateI also have experience with The Tasco Titian as do several other bubbas. I think mine is a 1.5-6. All on big bores and all have held up well to date. omewhat bigger than a Leupold but I think that little bit of extra weight is a plus on a big kicker. Not had a problem with slippage but I always put a dab of 3M ScotchKote inside my rings.
Mine has a German #4 which is my preferred on big game rifles these days. I like the Leupold duplex too, but not their heavy duplex.
