Does anybody here have any input on the quality, workmanship etc. etc. on the Vulcan Arms 50 Cal's that are for sale in Southern Ohio Guns catalog especially on shooting them? Thanks for any info.

I don't know about Vulcan, but if you're in the market, it wouldn't hurt to see if Steve Romans of Northwest Arms in Stevensville, Montana is still in business.

I haven't called him in a while, but Steve has done some truly excellent work for me in the past and he specializes in 50 BMGs.

The phone number I have for him is: 406-777-1573.

He doesn't advertise much (if any), and the last time I spoke with him he didn't have an internet connection, but don't hold that against him. This guy's a master gunsmith and expert machinest, and he'll do you a good job for a good price.

I have a .300 Win he made for me, and it feeds and shoots as smooth as silk.

It is a shellholder action. Decent looking,
and big strong action that may even work for
some of our really big cartridge creations.
More pics and info on their site--

the vulcan is the former hesse arms, they are made in st. paul mn. they have been trying to gain a following for quite awhile, but around here anyway (35 miles away) they have a rather poor rep. for quality. sometime ok somes (more often than not) not so good. try watsonsweapons.com he has similar rifles only made like the old state arms stuff.

Yes they are Hesse shell holder actions. OK Plinking guns but totally non-competative in 1000 yrd competition( i.e 20-25 inch guns). I've seen a few break parts under sustained shooting.-Rob

Ive only heard bad things about vulcan, only reason I didnt buy from them. Go with the Ferret 50 or Armalite AR-50, they are a much more established gun companies.
