Anyone tried the Zeiss Conquest 1.8-5.5 scope on a .416 or .458 yet? How they holding up? I've used them on 9,3x62 and .375 and they're working fine. May need a spare scope to take to Africa and was wondering what I could scrounge out of the safe that would survive. Thanks! I have not tried that particular scope, but in general the teflon-like finish on the outside of Zeiss scopes makes them tend to slide in the rings when mounted on over than .375 H&H, so I would at least suggest using some powdered resin/rosin between the rings and the scope. Another generalization is that lighter scopes tend to slide less and break less on heavy recoiling guns. Do you know how much that Zeiss weighs?

500 grains, The 1.8-5.5x Conquest scope is a heavy beasty ... 18.5 oz ... but has a 4" eye relief. Was thinking of using it in a .416 Aagaard which kicks a little harder than a .375 H&H. I have a 2.5x Compact on the .458 AR and was thinking that I'd use a 1.5-5 Leupold IR 30mm scope as a spare for that rifle. It has held up on a .416 Rigby for 5 years and hundreds of rounds. Have had no problem with a 3-9x40 MC Zeiss Conquests on the Winchester M70 SS Classic in .375 H&H. The rings on the both rifles are Leupold QRWs with steel mounts. I hope to have both rifles to the same scope mount centering so things can be swapped around if needed. Mike -------------- DRSS, Womper's Club, NRA Life Member/Charter Member NRA Golden Eagles ... Mike....have the exact scope on a Heym 404 loaded to about 2300 fps....excellent! I used a light coating of rubber cement on the rings once I "trued" them....no movement yet. I am taking the combo to Zambia this August for leopard, puku, hippo, etc. along with my forthcoming Heym 500 Jeff for the buff. You can't go wrong with the combo in my opine. I asked Doug at CameraLandNY to ask Zeiss about this scope on boomers up to .458 AR (70+ lb-ft of recoil). He did and his reply is: "I asked Zeiss to be sure and their reply was: Yes, he will be fine our scopes can handle recoil up to 1500 g per m/sec." Going to have to try it and see if it results in a repair requirement. Mike -------------- DRSS, Womper's Club, NRA Life Member/Charter Member NRA Golden Eagles ... mstarling ----- I have a Ziess Conquest 3 X 9 mounted on a .416 Remington Model 70 Winchester and a .416 Rigby in Ruger # 1. I have fired in excess of 100 rounds with the Rigby and 200 plus rounds with the Model 70, with no problems. I took the Model 70 to Tanzania to collect my Buffalo and it took a beating for 10 days and it did the job with no problems. Mount the Ziess and don't look back. Good shooting. phurley

You'll have no problems with the Zeiss. A friend has a 1.8X5 on his 458 Winnie no problems.
