There is a new book on dangerous game rifles that just came out by Terry Wieland. Just got mine today from Amazon for about 30%-40% off the cover price. Personally, I tend to buy books on my favorite topics whether they look good or bad. Haven't opened it yet so can't attest as to which this one is.

Got mine yesterday, just paging thru seems well written and I think it's worth the asking price. Now to get a little Rick time to sit down with a sip of burbon and read this weekend.

Yep...Safari Press sent out an email advertising it though they were "back-ordered" Amazon and Overstock have it in stock and a lot cheaper and given Safari Press' past record, shipped quicker. Just got it, and it looks good. A lot of double guns, but good none the less. "There always seems to be a big market for making the clear, complex."

And none of you fine folks thought to post the actual title of the book and a link to Amazon. Do not keep secrets here! Rich

I'm glad I was able to help. Besides, the price is right. If you try to get it at Safari Books, it would've been at full retail if they had it in stock at all. Lo do they call to me, They bid me take my place among them in the Halls of Valhalla, Where the brave may live forever.

I got my copy this past week...it's an "okay" book, but it could have been better. The color plates were terrific, but there needed to be more of them. The chapters on cartridges, ballistics, and terminal performance are rehashes of the gun rag articles we have all read and too many quotes by John Pondoro Taylor. I would have enjoyed more input from other gunmakers with opposing views (for context), and more examples of the custom touches that go into well made (read expensive) large bore rifles. I picked it up at Barnes and Noble for $25 plus tax (and no shipping). It wasn't bad at that price. Garrett

WOW ! JUST WHAT WE NEEDED !! another book on dangerous game rifles probably full of new information , with the new ballistics obtained by the new barrel lengths, short , short magnum cases with hot powders, and the latest tringular shape bullets destined to be a classic.....i doubt it. Got mine, and paid full price. Terry turns a good phrase on paper, always writes a good book, but he is rather shallow. He certainly lacks the depth and breadth of knowledge possessed by many of the experts and pseudoexperts that frequent this forum.

I have to agree with N.Garrett and his assessment. For the price(amazon) it is worth reading. I had hoped for more than a rehash of all the other books I have read, but I don't regret adding it to my collection. Lee. DRSS(We Band of Bubba's Div.) N.R.A (Life) T.S.R.A (Life) D.S.C.

I found it to be a pretty good read, even if he did blow off the "Loads" section. Jim "Learn to disagree without being disagreeable" - Ronald Reagan 1981

I think you can search online and get your own data about these guns, loads, etc. But mostly I just want to put up a new lead thread in the far right hand box -- instead of the "are you sick of twisting"
