I found a Remington 700 sps cheap in 375 h&h looks like a good bent for hell gun for Alaska except not stainless .Does any one shoot one of these .I didn't want to stray away from the 416 Rem mag but hard to pass it by .Alaska is not a good place to take your fancy rifle it won't look fancy after a few hunts there .I learned quick good wood in Alaska is for the wood stove not.on your gun .I need to coat my Winchester model 70 416 and get a good fiberglass stock for it .Dang I.hate to add another caliber to load but as cheap as this is seems like the gun for raft trips .You.never seen a grown man cry so hard until you see his custom rifle he had built get dumped in the river and never be found .A friend who is a goose guide dumped $10000 worth of shot guns on a trip across the river .I always tie mine to the raft and put them in floating cases which.helps !

Is this the "dangerous game" or "xcr" version?
I'm a huge fan of Remington's and my 375 off an xcr is excellent.
They can easily be made into lightweights and are becoming hard to find.
I'd grab it and not worry about stainless or not.
Put a McMillan on it and now your really talking!

It says it's the sps version for $500 it's a steal in think.I bought two Remington 700 big game rifles in 416 Rem mag with us stocks loved them .I just didn't want to fool with another caliber trying.like crazy to thin the herd but awesome deals keep popping up .I like working rifles that can go through hell and back and you don't.cry if they get scratched or bumped .I.figured it was a good deal just pain.in.the butt to load for something else ! I do have a bunch of .375 bullets though from my 375 jdj carbine I.never use and need to sell .There are way too.many.gun bargains I.am seeing stuff cheaper than it was 30 years ago .The big guns are way down there is no one to use them and people's kids just want ar15.

That's a pretty good price. I was unaware they made the plain jane SPS in a 375h&h.
Stuff it with a good dose of RL15 and a 270 Barnes crimped into the last groove.

Remington made a limited run of SPS's in .375 H&H several years ago. If I remember correctly they got snatched up pretty quick.

Does the floorplate on yours say"SPS Big game 1 of 500"?

I have a Rem. 700 classic in 375 H&H. It's blued and walnut but I picked up a Rem. plastic stock real cheap so I swapped out the stocks. Shoots real tiny groups with RL-15 and the 270 Gr. TSX bullet. Have the metal parts coated with one of the various rust resistant wonder coatings and you'll be in business.

Lots of folks like them, Im not one of them, I don't trust Rem 700 triggers for one thing, and Im a proponent of the controlled feed in a hunting rifle..but such things are an individuals choice..

drg416,

That's a great price on that rifle and I've probably owned 25 or more 700's with never a problem. The only issue I see is if your going to buy it for AK you probably need a good synthetic stock and a Ceracote or similar finish job. By the time you get that handled you'll have enough in it to buy a brand new all weather Remington or Winchester in stainless with a synthetic stock anyway.

My friend has one SPS stainless in .375 H&H and it is IMHO a good gun. He has different stock (original factory is slick in rain or blood), which is not slick and feels more like a "rubber" to me. He has also installed front sight and ghost ring by gunsmith. Very low maintenance rifle. He shoots 300gr A-Frames.

I.have had three model 700 ,in 416 Rem mag .My.gunsmith replaced every magazine spring. With weatherby springs they work way better .I.have a stainless model 700 kevelar 416 I.put.a floor plate on.it and a awesome removable muzzle brake that works awesome.I.just don't want to use that gun in a raft .Hopefully I get it if guy ever calls back too many awesome deals there are about 50 guns I want to buy.all bargains .I wish I had known to sell high buy low again but I am going to.make up for not selling a bunch.I think.that sps would be very good for the raft trips .I tie the heck.out of guns on boat trips seen way to.many.put in.rivers for good never to be found !

Sounds like a good deal. I agree on the Cerakote and McMillan stock. Perfect back-up gun to your 416 Rem Mag.
