Where there is a will there is a way. Just weld some hard facing rod on the outside of the receiver to make up for the steel you need to remove inside.

How can this post be here now???? Look at the original date! It was 1 yrs ago I asked this. One friend of mine(gunsmith)asked me to search if I find one action only,he wanted to make a 600NE on this,he said he can do it.You disagreed, but I have known this fella for 30yrs and can tell you that he is a real master,I beliewe also that he must add some steel on top of the action, otherwise it will be too weak.
I don't know how your friend did it, but a .600 NE won't fit a standard No. 1. SSK Industries does build the .600 JDJ, but that's based on a blown out .577 case.
I just called him and asked few things,he said that he are going to weld more metall to upper part of the frame, then make it ready, then heat-teratment and finishing and blued.Of the welding method, used metall and treatment I can`t give any info. But I know him, once he said,he is gonna make it.He is building customrifles only, ofcourse some repairs in between also.He is -60yrs age, full lifetime gunsmith, practised also in the USA for some time.I count on him 100% He is one of the last "big smiths" here.
