Per, Alliant already makes an excellent powder for the 460 wby. Reloader 19 gives very good accuracy along with a great deal of velocity. When you mention Reloader 17 I would assume you are looking for them to make a powder faster than RL. 19. Just curious why would you want a Reloader powder faster than RL. 19 for the 460 wby.? If you want a faster powder in the 460 wby. you can always go to IMR 4350. [ 06-27-2002, 21:41: Message edited by: Mitch ]

Well,,,the reason i wish Alliant would come up with RL-17 is that their powders seem to be of very good quality, if velocity is the subject. And the RL-17 seem to be the next logic step, and i think this powder, when launched,,would give the .460 Wby improved ballistics,,,just a thought. I am very well aware of RL-19 to be one of the best powders you can get for the .460 Wby,,and i remembered you told me your friend got 2720 fps with this powder,,,,impressive,,and he used 130 gr of it,,as this is too hot for most .460's. Would you hesitate using 128 grains of this powder,Mitch ?(kind of stupid question)

Per, I consider just over 2600 fps. to be a senseable max. load for the 460, this of course with a suitable powder. It is true my friend got 2722 fps. with 130 grs. of reloader 19, but I am sure his pressures were in the stratosphere even though he got normal extractions. To answer your question I would not use 128.0 grains of RL19 in my rifle as I am sure the load would be above maximum normal operating pressures. If Alliant made a powder designated RL17 it would be faster burning than RL19. A faster burning powder than RL19 in the 460 will yield less velocity than RL19 in the 460 wby.
