I have 4 416 rem mags a winchester express 70 ,two remington big game rifles a sako .I just got a call from a gunshop that wanted me to buy the model 70 express in 416 rem mag of course for $1025.I have almost bought too much stuff already but I do need another416 in model 70 because there will be no more. The 416s $1000 or less are very rare these days fewer and fewer made without Remington, winchester,Ruger and others making them. The 416 rem mag fits in a smaller rifle ,kicks less cost less to shoot and is just as powerful as factory loaded 416 rem mag.I guess I will have 5 of them.I might sell the 458 win mag model 70 dont know yet will have to see.

Just hold on to them. Even if they don't appreciate in value, they are good rifles and make good starting points for future big-bore projects.

Last year My brother found a Remington 700Alaskan Wilderness Rifle in a small gunshop on consignment...

The asking price at the time was $925.

My brother made an offer of $850 to the shop owner who called the owner of the rifle and the offer was accepted.

We've only recently found out what a fantastic deal that rifle really was.

It came with the original box of ammo, Remington premium ammo loaded with Swift A-frames with six rounds fired....
the original purchaser simply couldn't handle the recoil
So much so that the sixth shot precipitated a minor heart attack....

I think 458 winchesters are about to disapear with the 458 lott.winchester probally made more 458s than any one and around 800-1200 416 rem mags. The 416 rem mags also lost its biggest maker loosing winchester and remington with the 416 rem mag.The 416 rem mag will fit in alot more guns than the 416 rigby will.I have enough brass for three life times but I love shooting my 416s.It a big play toy but its life insurance in Alaska or my tent or in the brush.I like the 416 rem mags best of all the big bores. The 458 win mag is slowly disapearing which is very hard to believe.

If you watch the market you can find a nice used one in the 650 to 700 dollar range. I almost bought my first one last year for $650 very nice rifle at a Washington Arms Collectors show. Logic overcame emotion I hate when that happens.

DGR416, you really think the .458 is going to disappear? That's a shame to hear, that's one of my favorite rounds. I didn't think the Lott was going to hit too much popularity but hopefully the Win Mag stays around for a little while.

Hardly anyone buys a 458 or chambers it.They have the bigger is better idea. The 458 lott has taken its place.Without Winchester and Remington the 458 has no home. The 416 which is chambered in more rifles also needs an afordable under $1000 home to keep it going. There was a time not so long ago when there were lots of 416 rem mags and 458 winchesters for under $1000.The 375 H&H has just about stayed steady but its loosing ground also. Its a dang shame because all these will all fit in Remington and Winchester standard actions. There were 27 different 416s a few years back dont know how many there are now.Remington, except the custon shop,Winchester and Ruger are all out of the 416 rem mag business.Weatherby makes a 416 rem mag but its $2700 getting it out of alot of our budgets plus it should be around $1200 not $2700.I wish Ruger could come out with a stainless 24" ironed sited bolt action with their rings and the old tang safety that in a 416 rem mag would be my perfict big game rifle.

dgr416, if Ruger makes that rifle, I'll buy one too. I just picked up a Remington stainless safari rifle in .458 Win, and really like it. Mine isn't going away for a while!

The Tang Safety is was easier to shoot as you take the safety off .The same as shooting a fine double sxs shotgun. You will not take the safety off a Winchester and fire it at the same time or you will only do it once.I have shot so many deer both running and standing with my old model Ruger 77s with the tang safety that its just instinct.I even shot a coyote running with my 338 the year before last.ruger has the Strongest Rings made and the best big game rifle going with the Ruger 77 rsm.The tang Safety and being able to have it with a good Kevelar Stock and Stainless. They also need to make it the following calibers:416 Rem mag it will fit right in there,416 Weatherby I think it will fit and work but not sure magazine would hold over two rounds,338-378 with a 28" barrel the finest long range cartridge around and the 460 Weatherby the big bore with oomph.I think Ruger would take the whole market with the tang safety rsm and be able to choose stainless and fiberglass stock or walnut.I think its time the Dangerous game rifle that must be fired like a shotgun at times be made like one.It would also need some quick detachable Ruger mounts .This Rifle could be made for under $1500 and be as quick of handling as a fine Double Rifle but hold twice as many shells as a double Rifle. It would be control feed but smooth as silk .There would be a drop Magazine if needed and clip rifles as a choice also. This is the Dangerous Game rifle i want to see from the beat American Gun Company Ruger.

I once had a 77 tang saftey in 7mm mag. One of the very best rifles I've ever owned. This one had been mounted in a fiberglass stock, action squared and bedded, but retained the factory barrel. The best load I found for the rifle shot consistently in the .4's for 12 shots, then run a wet patch and two drys and it was ready to go again. I know because I used it to shoot hundreds of prarie dogs. When we parted ways my ex hocked it and I never saw it again. CRYBABY I never have gotten over that rifle. CRYBABY
