Tell me why....
Okay, I have been shooting a Ruger Number 1 in 416 Rigby for a decade plus now. I have thoughts on selling off that rifle, along with a few others I do not use and buying a Ruger RSM in 416 Rigby. I hunt NA game, hoping to get to the dark continent before I am 55 (48 now).

My thoughts are:

I want a repeater (well, really a Double, but I have other responsibilities too) for DG etc.

The RSM is a good value; semi-custom rifle sold well below its real value

416 Rigby is a versatile caliber-plains to DG and everything else... 300-450 grains covers ground hogs to tyrannasauers.

One drawback: I am left-handed, but have mastered the right hand bolt gun for well over 35 years; so follow-up shots are not a big issue.

Should I follow through and empty out a few unused but nice rifles/shotguns and buy a RSM?

What say you folks?

Thanks in advance.

AHR does a reasonable priced upgrade to CZ action. I had them build a 375 H&H on an upgraded Granite Mountain Action and upgraded the wood to exibition grade.

You can buy it in installments( Buy Action first and have action registered to you)

Check them out on their website American Hunting Rifles, or give Wayne Jacobson a call. I think he can get left handed actions.

Price range for 416 Rigby(Dangerous Game rifle) on CZ action about $4,500.00 to Approx $7,500.00 on GMA action.

Be patient and I would suggest pay rifle off in payments and get a real nice rifle.

Also check out Granite Mountain Action. Both the CZ and Granite Mountain actions are available in left handed actions.

Were it my money I'd spring for a left-handed action on a semi-custom bolt-action or keep practicing with the No.1

I have an RSM in 416 and very happy with it. It might be nice to have a higher capacity magazine. I never been to Africa.

If I could only have one rifle and even if price was no object, it would be a scoped bolt action repeater with 5 down.

There are lefthand CZ 550 Magnum rifles in Kevlar stocks waiting for you.
You can get 5 down in the box with those, for sure. thumb
5 or 6 down with H&H-based cases,
3 or 4 down with Rigby-based cases.
I have seen them in .375 H&H at my local dealer's rack.
Rebarrel one of those and you will have a better rifle.
Shoot it like it is until you do whatever with it.
A simple rechamber to .375 Weatherby would hot it up plenty.
Hang on to that .416 Rigby Ruger No.1, take it along as backup to the CZ.

CZ now offers a left handed 375H&H with 5 down. Maybe a 416 later?

From your question, I dont think you are in the market for a $5-8,000 custom rifle. The CZ list is 1800 but retail probably 12-1500 range. If you are lucky it will feed right and if not AHR can fix the feeding for short money. You dont need a full level one AHR mods.

I like the Ruger, but I am right handed.

I am a huge RSM fan. All I have seen are MOA or better, absolutley no out of the box problems, great looking, and possibly the best value in production rifle history. The .416 Rigby is at the top of the list in the world's rifle cartridges....a marriage made in Heaven. Yes, buy the RSM.

Once you look further into doubles, you will be gald you didn't buy into that problem.

As a fellow left hander I can say it is so nice to shoot a left handed bolt gun. I can crank a right handed bolt okay but I will never buy another right handed firearm.

I own one of the CZs in 375 H & H Left handed reworked by AHR (#2 Upgrades). I am very satisfied.

It is a shame that Ruger does not offer the RSM in left hand.

I'd go with a left-handed Winchester or CZ.

With the Winchester, you'd have to go with the .416 Rem. Mag. - but the Rem.'s the functional equivalent of the Rigby and gets from me a big so what's the problem? response. I like 'em both.

With the CZ, you might have to rebarrel and make a few other tweaks (unless CZ are now offering their LH rifles in .416 Rigby) - but that would be a small matter if you really want to get what you need and want at a relatively low price.

I find that the Ruger just leaves me cold and I don't like 'em - and I'm right-handed!
