How 'bout sharing what you needed to do to fix the roughness... Jim "Life's hard; it's harder if you're stupid" John Wayne

1st: Biggest difference was reshaping the lower edge of the claw extractor to help the cartridge head slide into the bolt face easier and bending the extractor arm slightly to create less tension on the extractor. 2nd: beveled (ever so slightly) all the edges around the bolt face and polished the bolt face. 3rd: polished all the top and side surfaces on the magazine follower along with beveling every sharp edge. 4th: smoothed and polished the feed ramp. I also extended the feed ramp down and to the sides a little more at the very bottom where the cartridges first hit with a round file 5th: debured and polished the very edges of the feed rails It feeds like a winchester now, but cycling the bolt, by its self, is still rough. hoping that will smooth out on it's own from use

Have a competent riflesmith change the CZ sheet metal extractor collar for a better quality collar that is properly adjusted. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

My CZ 9.3x62 was also a bit rough cycling out of the box. I oiled it, perhaps over-oiled the action and spent 3 evenings cycling the bolt; probably doing so for a total of 1.5 hours or so. That was all it took. My CZ 550 American is now as smooth as most of my bolt action rifles. It is one of my favorites. It also cycles rounds as well as any rifle I own. http://forums.accuratereloadin...141078981#5141078981 If you read this thread and some others referred there, you will find some great info. My experience with my CZ 550 in 416 Rigby has a lot of Input from Wayne of AHR. Wayne is a real guru with these rifles and a very helpful guy. I suggest the same things that he told me about. The ejector lever under the rear bridge is too long, sharp & rough. It always catches on the extractor rings that rotate on the bold body. This is single biggest reason for a rough CZ 550 action, according to Wayne. The top & bottom surfaces of the bolt lugs need to be polished. The top of the action rails where the bolt lug slides need to be polished. You will see in my post some photos of how I used a small file and 240 to 600 grit wet & dry paper to get a great smooth action. "When the wind stops....start rowing. Thanks. It does seem that the ejector is the biggest hangup when trying to close the bolt. I'll smooth that out and polish the top and bottoms of the lug and extractor and try the action rails

Yes, in my rifle the ejector was so long that it was pushing the bolt up into the top of the bridge. I probably took a mil out and rounded the edges. Now the rifle is as smooth as my 100+ year old Oberndorf Simson! "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."
