Heym Double 88B --> hot or not? Login/Join

Dear all,

a little-used double was offered to me in 9.3x74R. As I am German, the caliber is fine for me. The only problem I have is the following: I already own a pretty and perfectly adequate Heym SR20 in 9.3x62, which I use on driven boar and in Africa. Somehow, I do not manage to find reasons to own both, the double AND the bolt action. Especially, as I could pay for a nice plainsgame safari for the same money

Please help me with my reasoning ...

thanks very much

McStern

Question:
Heym 88 B in 9.3x74R - hot or not?

Choices:
Buy Double and keep the bolt action
Trade the bolt action
Keep only the bolt action

Let me understand this..... you are coming on here, and asking if you should buy another rifle or not???

I think you will get a lot of "both" answers, most of us don't get rid of rifles, but only add to the pile.

I've got both too - the SR20 in the same chamber, got it for the quick reloading, and ease of use for the wife and sister in law, and bracketed by a Heym Martini bolt gun and 88B also. Go for it!

This is like asking a race car driver whether he wants more horsepower.

Lol. I voted "both".

HA HA

asked the same question in a German forum. 60% told me not to buy. Here 80% to buy.
What does this tell you/us about German vs. "US" national character ;-)

Will let you know once I have made up my mind...

In a word? 'ALDI'. Germans are notorious bargain shoppers. So...talk him down on the 9.3x74R, get your best deal and take the plainsgame trip next year.

McStern ,

Only buy the double if you can afford it and still have the ability to do the hunting you want to. Sacrificing a hunting trip to buy another gun is lunacy in my mind. Do we not have guns so we can hunt? DUH!

I would buy the double and sell the 7mm Weatherby you played with in the past.

yeah, problem is the pricing. could potentially get 3%-5% of the Heym's price for the Wby.

All the rest: thanks for your opinions!

Depends on who is holding it at the time....

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
