I have been getting ready for hunting season and have been shooting alot off hand at 100 yards and have been able to keep most shots inside a 6 in circle (8 out of 10) with 2 just outside the circle and with iron sights I do the same at 75 yards. This is with a new 375 hh shooting kneeling unsuported, anyway I was woundering what groups you guys are getting as I know some of you are excellent shots.Greg

Are you Snap-shooting or standing position slow-fire? I get about the same groups as you do when I snap in a hurry. When I slow down just a split-second, the groups shrink down to 8"-10" at 100 yds. Slow fire, I can get about 4"-6" at same distance. Since my Ruger doesn't kick, I can basically practice with it more often.

I always snap shoot, I can't hit a thing if I squeeze the trigger. I don't use a bench to sight my rifles in , always kneeling unsuported and like I said I put most of my shots inside a 6in circle at 100yards. When I practice I steady the rife as best as I can and control snap the trigger. If I want to see how well the rifle will group I will then use the bench but for sighting in its alway unsuported. btw, "that which does not kill us..." is attempted murder...

If I kneel, i can generly get 4" or less with a scoped rifle... 5 to 6 with an iron sighted one...

it get, offhand, about the same size groups I do if i take a knee at 100

If your getting 8 out of 10 within a six inch circle your doing better than average and have nothing to worry about. The average open sight probably covers a four inch area on a target at 100 yards. I think you have to have young eyes to do that well. Once the sights start fuzzing out it all goes to hell in a hand basket from there.
Take care

Yea, I think I'm ok, that's pretty much how I shoot with my other hunting rifles, I needed to spend some quality time with this 375 since it was new. Greg

At 50, offhand, I'm inside 5" with 20 rounds, and a flyer. Elite 3200 scope.

That's with a 375 H&H, CZ 550. However, I'm having a removeable brake put on it, unless I find a 458 barrel sooner, so I can shoot it more.

How many rounds did you shoot, and are you starting to flinch?

I use a 22 lr rifle to make sure I'm not starting to flinch.

What kind of rifle? Considered a peep site?

The rifle is a win. mod. 70 safari express 375 hh shooting noslers partitions 300 gr factory loads. I shoot 7 to 12 rounds like this and will do this on multilpule trips at the range until I have complete confidence in the rifle and me before hunting with it.Also my range is out in the wooded areas like where I would hunt, tall grass, brush, wind, etc. Greg

375 alaska,

In my eyes your doing darn good. At a 100 yards, with my old eyes, I couldn't compete with you.

Let's take this a step beyond.

Let's take a standard 8 inch bull, mounted at 50, yes 50 yards. Using a rifle with at least 3500 foot pounds, and being either single shot, double gun, or lever, shoot for score. No semi/auto actions allowed.

Standing, shooting offhand, and with no supports of any kind , shoot 6 rounds in 30 seconds. Rifle can be loaded for the first shots. Timing should be by someone else, and results sent in by poster. (Honor system of-course).

You may want to send in a post at this page before shooting and indicate what you believe you can do. Then do the shooting test and send in the results.

You should also specify what gun, caliber, and bullet weight you are going to use or used.

After reading 375 alaska's post, I'm little embarrassed to state that I might be able to hit the bull twice.HI

All hits on the black count, even if on the edge.

Remember, no slings, sticks, or car fenders allowed.

Took my .458 out this weekend and put 5 in the black from 100 yards offhand. Three were 9s and two were 7s - plus one out of the black. Gun is a #1 with a 4X Simmons shotgun scope mounted, and loads are 500 Gr Horandy over 70 Gr of 4895. Note that this was over about a 2 minute period.
