I have a 470 Capstick. 1. Built on a M70 Classic Safari Express. It is a rebarreled 416 Rem Mag. John Ricks did the work on it. I has a 24" Krieger #6 contour barrel, NEGC Masterpiece rear sight NEGC Mastpiece Banded front sight, Gentry barrel band with sling swivel. I kept the Win Safari Express stock, but it is re-enforced in the wrist area, also a second recoil lug below the front sight. Also added a Breako 13oz mercury recoil reduces in the butt. It weighs about 10.5lbs with the Leupold 2.5x scope. It took a bit of work with the original magazine box, follower, and spring to get it to feed properly. 2. I have Bell brass with 470 Capstick headstamp I got from Huntingtons, about $1 per case. So far I have only used Woodleigh 500gr softs and solids. I have tried RL-15, H414, Varget, IMR4064. All worked OK, but I liked Varget best. 3. I had no problem getting 2350fps with RL15 and Varget in my 24" barrel. At 2400 fps, the only pressure indications were slighly flattened primers. That by itself may or may not indicate high pressure, but I thought that was enough. My favorite load is actually about 2250fps. I did not push the H414 or the IMR4064 past 2250fps yet. That is still 100fps faster than to 470NE, so that really is enough. 4. Good accuracy, about 1.5" for 5 shots at 100yds. The recoil is very stout, but not punishing. Maybe when I get more conditioned to the reciol off the bench, I can tighten up the groups a bit.

My 470 Capstick is a Winchester 70 Custom African Express. I placed the order with the custom shop in 1999 and got the completed rifle in Jan 2000. Measurements were taken and the rifle finished exactly per my requests so no changes needed or wanted now. In the area of componets I use Barnes XLC 500 grain spitzers for softpoints and Barnes 500 grain coated soilds (the solids are now discontinued, but were available from Barnes when I last ordered bullets). I load these projectiles to 2200fps. I know they can be driven faster, but as this is about 470 nitro express velocity and that round is legendary, I find little need to go faster. Also, the lower pressure is very helpful in extremely hot weather-- like Africa. My favorite projectile is the now discontinued Barnes 600 grain round nose, loaded to 2100fps. With hte Barnes coated X --2400 fps can be reached with reloader 12 in my rifle. Accuracy is 1 to 1 1.5 inches-- but I shoot open sights, it would be better with a scoped rifle.
