Folks I picked up my .458 lott today and am very happy with it, it functions and feeds flawlessly and the cz action after some polishing is a treat.

I have not got a digital camera, but here is the low down;

CZ 550 .458 win mag re-chambered with a .458 lott reamer.

Barrel Band added and forend sling swivel removed and hole patched up with a piece of Buff Horn !! an added extra my smith kindly added.

two extra cross bolts added infront of & behind the mag box as well as the standard cz pistol grip cross bolt.

slicked action & polish rails.

Bedded right to forend barrel lug and plastic plate removed from lug and replaced with steel. It is floated from after the barrel lug.

Had a set of warne QD's lapped so there ready to accept a 2.5x compact leupold I have on hand.

Next weekend I will shoot it, I may be swinging towards loading some 405 rem or speer 400 gr 45/70 bullets and driving them a Lott speeds to see how they pefrom on Grassy's I reckon they will be bombs at lott speeds [Big Grin]

So there you have it a functional good value 6 shot .458 lott [Cool]

JESUS!!!

PC, you are the man.....
no brake this time? That's a good fella!!

I've often thought that the lott, with 500s (or, gods forgive, 600s) is more than a match for the jeffery in recoil, especially since the Lott would generally be a lighter gun...

hmmm, got me thinking...

take a rigby action, and a 458 win barrel...
rechamber for 450 rigby....

heh heh... oh, the pain... in my wallet....

Who's got a take CZ 458 barrel?

Jeffo,

I like to avoid breaks if I can, firstly I wanted my lott to look as "African" as my limited budget would allow and secondly there darn noisy. Only breaked rifle I won is my .585 Nyati. I will build a .505 or jeff one day and that will not be breaked, it will be classic looks all the way. I may whimp out first shooting session and load some 400 gr speers, although I have 5x 510 gr win softs I could let rip with.

How much worse will the .458 Lott with 500 gr bullets be than the .416 Rigby with 100 gr of powder and a 410 gr woodleigh ??

Jeffo one day I would like a .450 Rigby, but this time I just took the easy road with cz .458 winny to Lott.

MLG,

I got my brass and dies from Grafs in the US. Worked out reasonable for proper headstamped stuff.

My 9.3x62 arrived about 4-5 weeks ago aprox and I have a nice load worked up for the speer 270 gr softs.

The 9.3 cz is a nice rifle, there may be still one availabe if your keen, there was only 5 bought in on special order and to my knowledge mine was the only one with a firm taker the others whom had ordered one pulled out. I'd buy a second if I could afford it [Wink]

PC- I don't notice much difference in Recoil between a Lott and a .416 Rigby loaded hot. I doubt you will either. Have fun with your new toy! I've been playing with a long throat 458 win mag and can probably get within 50 fps of a factory Lott load.-Rob

Rob have you used the 400 gr speer on game ?? I am hoping for a bomb at .458 Lott velocity's ??

With a long throated .458 winnie you'd neally have a lott anyways [Wink]

My lott was done with a clymer reamer and I think My smith said I have 2.87" according to the clymer specs.

What action is your win mag on Rob ??

Kevin A Grassy is my Nick name for a Kangaroo or short for Grasshopper [Big Grin]

PC- I throated a Ruger #1. My COL is 3.480. I have to put a new cannalure in the Hornady bullets and use a lee factory crimp die, but it will hold about 82 grs of ww 748. Pretty impressive actually with sub MOA accuracy.-Rob

Rob,

in a round about kind of way that is a lott in basically. Sounds like a fun round to play with !!

CR500 Bob is in Cantebury Road Heathmont Melbourne.

Bob used a Clymer Reamer which he said gave me a 2.87" length chamber, which I am happy about, should be plenty of room for the heavy 550 gr woodleigh's should I ever want to use them.

PC -

Beware of those 9.3mm Speer bullets. They are very accurate in my 9.3x64 - but in testing (wet pack) they have turned inside out with absolutely no core retention. The 9.3x62 is very close in velocity to the Brenneke I have - not really a big game bullet. Good for shooting paper though.

The Nolser 286 grain partition is just as accurate and its performace should be perfect. I have an old spreadsheet from a sweede gentleman that tested a bunch of bullets in his 9.3x62 and the deepest penetration came from the Nosler - over the Barnes "X" and RWS "TUG" and H-Mantle bullets.

best - redleg

Red leg,

your right but for pigs and roos they will be allright,

I had shots which required full length penetration the other day on some thin skinned stuff, I did not get it but i turned them into milkshake inside and made for an instant kill. I did not recover the bulletbut signs of severe expansion were there.
