Poppa, I have not used Trailboss but have used a bunch of Accurate 5744 Dave DRSS Chapuis 9.3X74 Chapuis "Jungle" .375 FL Krieghoff 500/.416 NE Krieghoff 500 NE "Git as close as y can laddie an then git ten yards closer" "If the biggest, baddest animals on the planet are on the menu, and you'd rather pay a taxidermist than a mortician, consider the 500 NE as the last word in life insurance." I am waiting for some Beartooth bullets cast bullets to try with Trailboss in my 416 B&M. It looks like a good option for fun loads like you said. Will up date. SSR

Great choice for downloading, say, a .458 Lott to 30.06/.308 performance. Very gentle, too. Read what Wieland had to say about this in Dangerous Game Rifles. Oh, yeah...Idaho, please stay out of this. Just because Terry Wieland said it doesn't make it wrong. Good hunting!

Go to IMR website. They have info on how to dtermine loads for your case. Some loads are given but they show a formula for developing loads. Pretty simple.

Not quite as large a bore, but I have been using 19 grains of Trail Boss with Sierra 235gr SSBT in my .375 and it has been a ball. The load has been very accurate and the recoil has been negligible.

I use it in my 550 Magnum under a 715 gr cast bullet. Works fine but wouldn't call it "soft" shooting. Just not as bad. Basic recipe is fill to the bottom of the seated bullet or 100% load density. I've used it and AA 5744; I think Trail Boss is much better suited for the purpose. For one thing, no one has ever blown up a gun with it. I know of two ka-blooies with AA 5744. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

I use it for lite loads in my 458 Lott and just started my son loading "youth" loads with it in his .270. It is great for the purpose.
