I bet it would work well on a european driven boar hunt.

prof242I have one of the Baikal double rifles in .45-70. They are kind of rough, but can be improved to be accurate, useful rifles.

ramrod340Several do. The Baikal for $1000 or less maybe Sabatti at around $2500 and up.
While the Baikal might be rough it would work great for what you are talking about.
As usual just my $.02

Siace also makes a 45-70 DR, but it's considerably more pricey than those already mentioned.

GrenadierPedersoli makes some .45-70 doubles with hammers that are a little step up from those mentioned. You can even order them with an extra pair of shotgun barrels.

HomebrewI used to have one of the Pedersoli's. Nice guns. Strongly built. Think it is a copy of a Colt double rifle prototype from the 1880's or so. Wish I hadn't sold it. At one time I was considering reaming it out to 45/120 or 450 #2 Nitro. The likely regulation issues killed this idea though.
376 steyr. Have a look at the doubles page. There 4 threads on 45-70 including my quest for one. Shooting my Siace this weekend with 350 g at 2100 fps with some modifications was pleasant. Close to a 450/400 performance.

Mark ClarkI have a Baikal, I need to regulate it but each barrel shoots a decent group just not together. But that is fixable.
It has Russian esthetics but also Russian durability.
Somewhere during the Soviet era the talent that created Faberge eggs was misplaced .

jimatcatthere's a Baikal double 45-70 in a pawn shop in El Campo, Tx for $600... probably get it cheaper... I paid $1000 for mine and it shoots great.... and it took less than 10 rounds to regulate it with factory Remington springfield trapdoor 405 gr loads...
