I got this itch thats killing me, I have decided I must have my newly aquired 450-400-31/4 rebored to 450-31/4" or 450 No.2..It weighs 10 lbs. and a rebore would cut it to at least 9.5Lbs....

I get these seizures from time to time, some of them pass, some of them come about...

S00000000 anyone have the contact numbers for Cliff LaBounty?????? I would appreciate them..if that doesn't work perhaps I will buy one.

Don't know Cliff's number, but last I heard was he was taking NO new projects as he was something like 2 years behind already.

What kind of 450/400 did you get?I'll take it it's a single shot if you're thinking or reboring.

Brian.

WHAT??????? You want to rebore a perfectly good 450/400 3 1/4??? [Eek!]
You ain't been sniffing some "lost" evidence from one of your old cases have you??? [Roll Eyes]
Call the men in the white coats!!!
Heat up the tar and pluck some chickens.
Call the Exorcist...Ray must be demon possessed. [Mad]

Ray calm down, drink some cool ice tea.
relax... think pleasant thoughts [Big Grin] .....

It would be a travesty to alter a perfectly
good British double rifle
If you want a 450 just hunt one down.
I can highly recommend the 450 No2, but I do not think a 9.5lb 450 would be comfortable to shoot, or very fast on the second shot.

Ray, you could have another set of barrels made in 450 Nitro or 450 No2. I have seen 3 sets made by J.J. at Champlins. One set was in 450 No2 for a Holland and Holland.
If they had not had his name on them I would have thought they were Original British.

Ray, I agree with 450NE#2
get JJ to make you another set of barrels. Maybe you can trade him back some of those stock blanks you've been sitting on! [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Ray,

Long time...

Leave the original barrels alone - especially if it's British! You might want to give Nick Makinson a call. He can make another set for you and they'll be done right. His phone is 519-471-5462. He's an English trained master and a fine gentleman too - always not easily found in the same person.

Was thinking of the stories you used to tell on this board about shooting clays with "sweet thang." I was shooting my ca. 1884 Joseph Lang hammerless 12 ga. sidelever with Damascus barrels today on a round of sporting with the club pro. He shot a 94 with his fancy K-gun and I shot an 89 with an old British game gun...made him worry a bit - was lots of fun since I was shooting 7/8 ounce 2.5" shells and he was shooting Winchesters new heavy-recoiling super sports.

Give Nick a call. If you don't know him, you'll wonder why you haven't known him all along. He can make you a double from scratch if you like.

regards - redleg

Ray
Krieghoff's price list shows a price of $5,995 for a set of Nitro bbls. Champlin's price list shows the price for a set of double bbls starts at $7,500, this includes regulation. I have seen J.J. work and you cannot tell it from original British.

I spoke to Cliff a couple of months ago about reboring an old Gibbs double. He quoted me something like 5-6 weeks turnaround.
