I just shot my ne Alexander Henry 450/400 3.25. I loaded up a couple of different loads and this was the best one. The rifle. The target from my 450 3.25 Westley Richards, also today.

Looking great, Mick. Question? Is it a problem in having one rifle printing high @ 50 and the other low? Will you be checking POI further out? [ 10-18-2003, 07:24: Message edited by: Nickudu ]

Outstanding!!!! Don't let those two rifles get away. It doesn't get any better than this with doubles (even if you did have a scope on at least one of them ). Congratulations on your rifles and your shooting . Jim

Nick The 400 has a scope so I can adjust it easily, I want it 1" high at 100. I have only shot it with open sights once and it was about 5" high and 3" right. That will require some sight work. The 450 is with open sights and I would like it 1" high at 50. I held a 6 o'clock hold on it so it needs minor rear work I think. My eyes are about at their limit with open sights at 50 yards now anyway.

Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation. I was just wondering how the fellows utilizing various double rifles went about achieving a degree of "similarity", in regard to sighting. I suppose it's not always so easy to come by with iron sights, across the calibers (?).

Micky1, those are both amazeing groups with any double rifle, and to have a load that is under 1" at 50 yds is something that doesn't happen too often, and even less with two rifles owned by the same person! The groupings are the best that could be asked for as to lateral iron sight adjustment. One word here, I think, is in order! What you want is the barrels to shoot at point of aim at 25 YDS, then see where they hit at 50, and 100 yds! When a double is at it's best is when it is used on an in-comming target that must have a bullet hole punched with absolute surjical precision,at very close range, without haveing to think about where to hold. The longer shots, as long as the windage is right, can give you a little time to think about hold over, or under! I see the loads you wrote on the targets, and they are cool, but I have one question! Do you use any type of filler in either, or both of these loads? If not did you try these loads after twirling the rifle like a baton, then fireing, so that the powder is in different possitions in the case? The 450/400 3.25" with the scope would be perfect for cats, or bear over bait, with the scope zeroed at the exact distance from blind to bait. This gives you precision shot placement, for the initial shot! If it happens to be a little off, and a follow-up is needed, the scope may be removed, and with the irons "ON" at 25 yds, makes it perfect for the rush of a wounded cat, from 50 yds, to the muzzles! That Alex Henery is a beautiful rifle, by the way! [ 10-18-2003, 19:34: Message edited by: MacD37 ]

Mac I tried two different loads for each rifle. For the 400 I tried 81 grns and 82 grn of 4831. The first time I shot it The load was 84 grn 4831 and chronoed at 2275fps. The bullets crossed but still shot into an inch. This was a load a friend uses and he gave me the ammo while I was waiting for brass. I backed of on this and the 81 grns is the keeper. I was going to try a R-15 load next that I got from Ray but I don't see the need now. I am not much of an experimenter. The 450 loads were the one given and 84 grn R-15 w/ 4grn dacron filler. It shot high and about 4" apart. I will say that I could feel the difference in the recoil between it and the 4831. the velocity of the R-15 was 2196, a bit fast I think. I will try to download it a bit and see. No filler in the 4831. Ray What can I say, while I may have some 'White Feathers' on my head I no longer have the 'Eyes of the Eagle'. I can take off the scope when hanging around camp to impress the Pilgrims. Besides, it come that way.

I think thats supposed to be 74 grs. of RL-15 not 84 grs and 74 is hot for a double.. I shoot 71.5 of RL-15 with 3 grs. of Dacron.. The way its shooting I wouldn't change a thing but the scope
