Fat_Albert404J in 700Rem SPS?
Could the action of a Rem.700 SPS rifle in 300 Ultra Mag be used "as is" to rebarrel to 404Jeff? Should the extractor be replaced with a Sako type. No I don't plan on useing the SPS stock. I'm looking for about 10lbs with iron sights as I have a "little girly shoulder". I planned on haveing only iron sights with a Lyman 57 on receiver. I will most likey never get to Africa but they sure grow cottontails big in Apple Valley,Peoples Republic of California. Thanks

gumboot458Sure it will and if you want to go to Africa it would work great ........I don,t think the Sako extractor is better than the Remington .......

MasteriflemanLet me start by saying that sounds like a good conversion. I have SAKO style extractors on my Remingtons but, I never had a standard Remington extractor fail. I would keep the bolt "factory" until you do have it fail, which I don't think will happen.

fredj338FA, I don't see why it wouldn't work. I made my 404j on a M70/300RUM. I'ld rather have the CRF but The M700 has a good rep. for feeding well, but I would probably go w/ the ;arger Sako extractor.

It should do fine for the big rabbits, but I'd use a different action for buffalo and such.
