A few years ago I came upon a great answer to recoil-the Evoshield shirt. I don't have the web site, but I'm sure if you Google "Evoshield" you'll get it.

The shirt is like underarmor, stretchy, and has a pocket for the shield. The shield comes packaged in plastic. When removed from the package it begins to harden. Place it in the shirt and mount your rifle. I hung the rifle from the ceiling so I wouldn't have to hold it up for the several minutes required for the hardening process. The shield is not a cushioned pad, but a rigid shield which spreads the force over a larger area.

It works beautifully. My 458 Lott is comfortable to shoot with it. Cost is about $70 and well worth it. I don't know why Midway, Cabela's, etc. don't have it. Evoshield makes products for the sports industry and others. Great stuff.

Interesting. However, it will only fit their shirt (or shirts you customize to carry the shield).

It also will lose its effect if you gain or lose muscle mass in the area it covers.

I prefer the PAST recoil shields, as they can be worn over or under any shirt, sweater, vest, jacket, or coat.

For shooting off the bench, get the Magnum pad.

I had a local shoemaker sew my PAST recoil pad into inside of my shooting vest. Cost me $20 and I don't take as much abuse for wearing it lol ... well worth the money.

Regards,

Chuck

I simply invite whomever is heckling me to come shoot whatever large rifle I'm shooting off the bench for a few rounds.

I love my PAST pad. Even for offhand shooting.

I have found that building-up my upperbody and strengthening my core muscles has been the best remedy for mitigating the effects of heavy, repeadted recoil.

Think of it like a cage-fighter's training to withstand repeated blows to the body!

A strong foundation makes for a strong structure!

There is a new class of soft armor for motorcycle riders that just might work.
Its like a soft rubber untill it gets hit, then it goes solid for a split second.
I'll see if I can find the name.

Cheers, John

Go to WWW.GoAZ.com and you can by individual pieces of D3o armor. It cuts with sizzors.
Its an orange colored intellegent molicule plastic that is very pliable and comfortable.
When struck it turns completely solid dispersing the energy over a wide area.

I could be just what you are looking for.

Cheers, John

I have a PAST Magnum. Believe me, the Evoshield provides much more protection.

I have a Past Mag pad I've used for many years...works great standing, but not so good off the bench or prone...for me at least...damed thing keeps slipping up or down at the wrong time.

I found another very nicely shaped pad on Buffalo Arms under the Accessories link...Rand Elite...It is a LARGE pad covering up over the shoulder and down below the arm pit.

My Past is relatively hard, but the Rand is much softer, conforms much better and does just as good a job or maybe moreso than the Past. It even conforms to the curve of that mean curved steel butt plate on my 1874 50-90 Sharps and makes shooting it with heavy loads off the bench tolerable...and by adding a lace on recoil pad it make it even better. Big Grin

Roadrash protection sure has come a long way for motorcyclists since the "good ol'days??" of football elbow/knee pads and leather patches, hasn't it.

That Evo-stuff sounds great also...have to look into it...might be very useful for when the wife/husband goes tangent. Hahahahaha

Luck

Ya just gotta cowboy up! Nobody has been crippled or killed in years from recoil. Bloody noses and scolloped eyebrows are an exception but only require a little wadden in th nose and a bandaid on the eyebrow and your good to go. sofa
