What is the .460 A-Square short and will it fit in a standard length action? Is it the .460 WBY case cut down? Thank You.

Yes the 460 short A2 is the 460 wby cut down to 2.500. It will fit in a 458 length action but without major work you will have feeding problems.

The 460 Van Horn is also a shortened version (2.500) of the 460 Wby. case. The ballistics would be very similar to the 460 Short A-Sq.

Yes, but as mentioned in earlier posts, feeding will problematic. I know Van Horn did it on some of his rifles, so it can be done, but I would expect a fair amount of magazine and lip work to be done. - Dan

I am still looking for a cartridge that will fit on a regular length action. I thought the .460 A2 would be a possibility. If not I might have to get a CZ550 in .458 Win and have it rechambered. Hmmmm I wonder if the .460 WBY will work. I know the Lott will.

The 460 A2 Short will work in an action that is long enough to feed the med length mags (ie: 7mm Rem Mag, etc). The CZ550 can be converted to use 460 Wby cartridges. Hope this helps. - Dan

The .460 wby will fit in the big CZ action but that useless belt uses up a lot of magazine space. Your better choice would be a .450 Rigby/Dakota. Same powder capacity but no belt and a 4 round magazine . . . with a little work.
