I'm just finishing an African hunt with a 300 Win and 375 H&H using Hornady GMX ammo. The bullets performed above expectation on plains game, shooting through all game shot, leaving a devastating wound channel. But I didn't shoot Buffalo. The PHs I hunted with shoot buff first with a soft point then all solids in the magazine. I would rather use 300 grain .375 bullets in softs and solids. Is the GMX bullet an appropriate substitute for soft points but not solids on dangerous game? Quick, Cheap, or Good: Pick Two

Of course, there are two different GMX bullets; bonded & non bonded.

The GMX is no longer made. It was a monolithic bullet. The replacement is the CX bullet. I understand it is also monolithic and may even be made of the same metal alloy, which is chiefly copper. The CX has the new heat shield polymer tip and more rounded grooves in the bullet body to enhance ballistic performance. It may open up at lower velocities than the GMX did, but I have seen no data on that. Hornady does some strange things, IMHO. Why they would choose to make the .375 caliber CX in only a 250 grain weight is one of them. I think a heavier bullet, even if only a 270-275 grainer, would have made more sense in .375. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.
