Robert,

The software program I use was given to me by someone who worked in the defense industry (he is now dead and buried). I have considerable faith in the program, but it works best when it is correlated (validated) to real life data. It is rather labor intensive and EXTREMELY outdated by today's standards (it runs in DOS). The plus side is one must learn a considerable amount about internal ballistics to use it, otherwise you cannot. The gentleman who gave me the program also instructed me in it's use. Many of the principal employed by the program are WAY over my head, but I have a working knowledge of how to use the program.

I am a mechanic, not an engineer or physists or anything like that, so you are correct that I could not write a program to perform this kinda analysis on my own. I simply to not understand the math and physics involved. That doesn't mean that I cannot be trained on how to fill out the fields and push the buttons.

For the record, the program clearly agrees that the 600 OK will achieve better than 2400 fps with a 900 grain bullet. It simply doesn't like H414 or slower powders as the basis for these ballistics.

Since I have no experience shooting anything which kicks harder than a 50 Beowulf or a 12 gauge, I really don't relish the thought of firing off a 600 OK at 2400 fps. Not too aweful crazy about the thought of shooting one at 2100 fps.

I apologize to you and everyone else for my poor behaviour and the legacy of lies.

For the record my initial program simulation gave these results for a 900 grain bullet and IMR4895:

Quote:

155 grains of IMR4895

Muzzle velocity - 2451 fps

Muzzle energy - 11,991 lbft

Chamber pressure - 56,357 psi (max avg)

Using the data supplied by George I am better able to fit the 600 OK and the new results for a 900 grain bullet are:

155 grains of IMR4895

Muzzle velocity - 2479 fps

Chamber pressure - 60783 psi

A pit hot I suppose.

Rel 15, Varget or IMR4064 at around 150 grains should hit the old 2400 - 2450 fps range. I should think, according to the program that is.

Robgunbuilds sig says "900grs at 2400fps!"; some of the chrono results being posted here though (as "max" loads) are showing ~2200fps.

So: is 2400fps possible, or is 2200-2300 the max? I know that recoil is a (big) factor, but discounting that...

It will do 2400 with a full load of ball powder like
W-760 or H-414.Ed.

Actually, Robgunbuilder is the only one who has posted chrono results. He and I have the only working .600ok rifles so far. I haven't fired mine over a chrono yet. I am tomorrow morning and will post the results. I don't have any loaded up to max with H414(Rob's powder of choice), but I have a few with 155grs of H414. I am also trying H4350, and I have a few loaded with Rob's max with IMR7828.

What you have seen lately is Ass_Clown's last persona posting what he thinks are the velocity figures, that he got from a computer program.

We shall see.
