Looking for some data here, gentlemen. Would like to get a sample of barrel twist rates for .577 rifles, both black powder express and nitro express. A fellow on another forum with a Grant double in .577 BPE reported 1:48.
Thanks for any help.

My .577 rimless wildcat cartridge, which produces the same ballistics as the .577NE (the one on the right), is chambered in a Les Bauska barrel with a 16" twist.

Thanks Xausa; that's a bit faster than I would have expected. Is that rifle on a 1917 Enfield action? Safety suggests it.

Most smokeless 577 doubles were 30 to one twist I read somewhere,
And they all worked great at their slower speeds.

That gun above is an Enfield that I like very much,
very nice job, and we put bunch of my 585HEs in Enfields,

We made our 577/585 barrels 20 to 1 twist, made by McGowen,
We figured the 1 to 12-14 like Asq did and 1 to 15-16-17 was to fast,
With faster velocity the bullet spin is faster anyway.
We have barrels here and so does McGowen.ED

Any enfield will do as long as front ring isn't cracked

and Rem/WIN can be cracked also. They get cracked when

barrels are removed the wrong way. As Armorers back in the

day torqued them by jumping on 3 foot long handles.

Torgued 4 times to much. My 585 test gun is Eddystone.

Allan Swann in AUS is making them 1 to 18 for guys there.Ed

We got 26" and 29" profiled..

It is a heavy profile and is 1.35" at breech for 8" long.
them straight taper to .980" at the muzzle.

We have straight blanks of 1.37" and 28 and 31" long.

We can cut them all shorter if folks want.Or a different profile can be put on..
The profiled ones we had Mc Gowen do when they made barrels.

I prefer 26" or longer. others want 22" or 24"..The guys with ones
in NEFs got them 29" long.Ed
