I would like to know what you people think about using a Stiller Tac 338 and a Defiance action to build rifles based on the 460 Weatherby case. Both actions have a M16 extractor and a .750 dia bolt. The actions come with a bolt face for the 460 case. They would be single shots. Ross

What cartridge are you planning to build? Something for longrange hunting without a need for 'controlled feed'?

In any case, it sounds like a serious build with the price of those actions.

I am going to build a 500 a square on the stiller action and a 460 weatherby on the defiance action. I won't be using these rifles on dangerous game. I don't hunt any dangerous game because of the cost involved. I love the big bores but I don't use them like they should be used. Ross

Will you hunt with them at all? (I'm just curious.)
Instead of the 500 A2 have you possibly considered
either of these .550" bores, which can use the
460 Wby brass or 500 A2 brass:

2.65" brass: http://ammoguide.com/?catid=738
3.00" brass: http://ammoguide.com/?catid=739

The designer of the 550 Mag says it WILL work
fine with the slightly shorter 460 Wby brass.

Bullet selection is very limited on the 550. I went with the 510 because of bullet selection. I normally shoot light bullets in my big bores. The rifles are being used for Bear hunting over bait at 100 to 165 yards from a bench rest. Every rifle is over 15 pounds with 1.250 straight barrels. I have several young kids shooting these big bores. Ross

Good for you bringing kids into the game. Surely no
need for controlled feed with the shots you're talking
about.
