I'm fixin' to load some 400 grain A-Frames in my 416 Rem Mag and thought I'd check and see if anyone had factory loading data. I'm going to start with Rel 15 but am open to other powders. I'm looking for an accurate load in the 2400 fps range.

In my 416 Rem Mag, it took 81 grains of Reloader 15 to hit 2400 fps with the first lot of powder I had. The more recent lot takes about 79 grains to hit 2400. With either, 2400-ish fps seemed to be the sweet spot as three shots would go into less than an inch. Rem brass, Federal Large Rifle Magnum primer and 3.590 OAL. Varget worked well also. I think 78 grains worked out OK but start low, etc, etc. "There always seems to be a big market for making the clear, complex."

Lewis50 - I have tried several powders to include Varget however my 416 rem seems to like BL(C)-2 best - very consistent velocity, excellent grouping with the 400 grain A-Frame bullet (same results with the 400 Nosler Partition) - the only downside (not that it matters any) is that, IMHO, bl(c)2 powder stinks - yes, I mean it smells - nevertheless, it works well - good luck - KMule Hear and forget. Mcray, you don't really need a mag. primer w/ RL15, try a std. for a bit less pressure & maybe squeek a little better accuracy. I found this true in my .375h&h when I was shooting RL15 or IMR4064. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

I suspect you may be right. I have loaded my 416 with regular primers but couldn't tell any difference one way or another. And with potential DG loads, I want plenty of "kindling", hence the mag primers. Just another thing to experiment with. "There always seems to be a big market for making the clear, complex."
