Bob NisbetNew 2.5-8 Lupy Coming - Should I install it on my 375 H&H
I couldn't resist when this scope came up for sale and I got it for just over half of full retail. A Leupold VX-III 2.5-8.
I currently have a VARIX-III 1.5-5 on my preWar model 70 in 375 H&H. Have the same model scope on my 1951 model 70 in 30-06.
Any thoughts whether the 2.5-8 will be better on the 375 or the 30-06.
Most of my hunting is in the piney woods of East Tx, where shots are typically under 150 yards, but I have been known to travel to Colorado and Canada to hunt.

BaxterBPut it on 30-06.
Leupold 2.5x8x32...one of my favorite scopes, great glass, light, compact size, and all the magnification you need for the type of hunt described. Use it on either rifle.

Use Enough GunMe too on one of my Model 70's, and I believe that Saeed has the same on his favorite African rifle as well, if I am not mistaken.

With that said, if you are not figuring to also upgrade your '06's scope with something a bit bigger, maybe you should put the new scope on the '06 rather than the .375, especially since most of your hunting takes place in Texas.

Kyler HamannMy two favorite rifles are .375's. Both carry that scope and I wouldn't have it any other way. In fact I have that scope on my .460 and .416 as well. Everytime I switch to something else I miss the 2.5x8. Couldn't get a much better compromise in my opinion. They're really under-rated.
If something is so close that 2.5x is too much you need to switch to plan B... whether that's a knife, running, or dieing.
And if something is too far for 8x you need to get closer.
The 2.5 X 8 vxIII is the "perfect scope" for a .375 H&H. The 1.5 X 5 is OK but doesn't let you take advantage of the up to 250 yds. that a .375 will perform well.
I had a 1.5X5 on mine and changed it to a 2.5X8...never been happier!

I use 1.5x5s on my big guns and 2.5x8s on my all around guns.

Lets hope plan 'A' works every time then. I too have one on a 460, and love it. I would put one on my 375 in a heart beat, but have a redfield 2-7 on it to try out. The 1.5-5 looks more African on the 375 but I think the 2.5-8 is a better scope. If 2.5 is too much then open sights it is.

I have the same scope on both of my .375s

BukkenYour 2,5-8 would be a gem on either rifle. I had one on an ill-fitting 30-06, and kept it when the rifle went. Took a rifle deal with my brother to see it go, but then I had to buy another. The new one rides on my Husqvarna 358 NM, and the 2,5x wasn't any hindrance when the buck came at me at 10 paces. I'm getting another for my model 70 30-06 if my brother ever pries his Swarovski 3-9x36 that tops it, out of my hands.

Lets keep it simple...put the best scope on the rifle you use most often.
