Anyone have a pic of the 20" SS Alaskan that has been put into the wood stock from the African? Kind of curious on how that looks

I did it in a .375 and it looks just fine, as the picture below shows.

A couple of things. I've heard of folks doing it with the .416 Ruger, but the recoil broke the wood stock. If I was going to try it with the .416, I'd consult with a good gunsmith to made a mod or two that would reinforce the stock.

That said, with my (actually my daughter's) .375 Ruger, I had it fully bedded professionally with Brownell's Steel-Bed product. It sure didn't hurt the accuracy because it shoots better than an inch with Barnes products. We've shot the rifle over 100 rounds with no problems, btw.

Since this is a woman's gun, the stock has been shortened and a LimbSaver recoil pad has been added for a l.o.p. of 13". Emmy loves it. She says it comes to her shoulder with either irons or the scope right on the target, she likes the light weight for long treks and with the aftermarket pad, she's not at all recoil shy.

Here's a description of the rifle from an earlier post:

"Emmy's graduation rifle is a Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan in .375 Ruger. I traded the composite stock for a wood one off of an African model, had it bedded well and shortend the pull to 13" with a LimbSaver recoil pad. We loaded 250 grain TTSX bullets to a mild 2600 fps and recoil wasn't even mentioned by either of us when we shot the rifle. Exit wounds were 1" in diameter and the lungs were jelly.

The Leupold VX-R 2x7x33mm illuminated scope was just perfect. It "gathered" light well and when the black coat of the bear at twilight seemed to soak up the reticule, switching on the illuminated dot a bit, did the trick."

And a picture:

Thanks Judge! Just was I was looking for. Unfortunately I was away from my computer when the auction ended on GB and I missed out on a killer deal on that 375 Ruger. Oh well, another will come along, but I'd like to do what you did, only in SS
