VZ24 action, Sunnyhill bottom metal drop mag, 3 leaf express sight, banded front sight, Warne rings and bases, claro walnut, Chem pak finish, and 2 position Winchester type safety.
Beautiful gun. I've got one on a M-98 and love the round. I do think we'll see the day when the Taylor becomes a factory offering.....the renewed interest in middle-bores (ie, the .405 Win) and release of the .458 Lott should give the cartridge added visibility. As I understand it, Ruger was very close to producing these on the Model 77 back in the 1970s.
Load is 71 grs of 3031 behind the 300 hawks and the 300 X pills. Will do around 1.25". Have some of the 410 gr Hornady solids and use a 66 gr load of 3031. Tried 748 but didnt group as well. Chronographed the 71 grs of 3031 on both bullets, and both run right at 2700 fps.

Friend, If you say it started as a taylor, then it did. My comment was based that the "square" barrel sling post looks exactly like (and I like it as little) as the on my on winchester model 70 super express in 416 rem. I've since done barrel bands on my 376 and ordered it for my 500jeffe. great looking gun, and *IF* it had started life as a mod 70 416 rem, it would be in as good a pedegree as RAB's 375 ultra... which is pretty durn good, cz action, mod70 375 barrel.
syncerus, That sure does look like a Winchester barrel. I do not see the banded front sight, looks like the standard Winchester ramp, but it may be a resolution problem on my end. You must have been trying for the Winchester look. Beautiful rifle. Great choice of action for a 416 Taylor. I will have to post a pic of my Ruger Mark II Taylor.

I dont have a pic on the puter of the banded front sight. Here is a pic of the barrel band, as it does look like the Win type in the poor pic. Has Warne double lever rings too and this other pic gives a better view of things. Glad to see some folks on here have appreciation for some of the finer things in rifles.
syncerus, The photo illustrating the band is of a different rifle, unless the rear sight changed to a different type and slid forward on the original 416 Taylor. The front sight ramp contour and hood are different on the second versus first rifle, also. The second rifle also has a drop box magazine and the first did not.
The original photo was not that bad! Why are you playing games with us?
For your edification pal, that is the same rifle!! It does have the drop mag, the same friggin sight, the same everything--period. My son built this rifle for me; its the same damn rifle in every pic. I resent the use of this game playing comment, and should have known that these forums bring out the unsavory characters. I waste my time getting some better pics and have unfounded accusations made. I problably wont be a habitue of this or any other forum in the future over this. In contempt.

and here's a supergrade to see the sights/sling swivel, etc
Dude, It's a great looking rifle. but your camera must be screwy. it really does look like a winchester barrel, and then a different barrel in the later pics. which is why we are asking. We've had a spate of fakers, and we love this gun, just trying to figure out what our eyes are telling us. At one time, a guy said he or his dad reworked a model 70 to look exactly like a cz 550. So, we are cautous.
Did you update the barrel band and/or sight?
I am not trying to start a fight, but asking honest questions, as I think RAB did.
Jeffe, You were right, that first rifle picture had a take-off M70 barrel, but who knows if it was really a 416 Remington cut off and rechambered to 416 Taylor. More likely a 375 H&H cut off and rechambered to 375-338 (Chatfield-Taylor).
Why the charade, insincere sincerus? The photo differences are obvious and undeniable.
The POSeur strikes again and is stymied in his attempts to cut the grass on this lawn. Better sharpen your blade next time sincerus.

Man, what a beautiful rifle. I hope Syn aint really the POSuer, as the rifle looks awesome. I don't think we "meant" to go troll hunting, just asking fair questions.
I posted a pic of a mod70 super grade right under his. the barrel band (which aint there) front and rear sights are pure winchester on the first pic.
I just don't understand, as just the stock alone make me drool.. it's awesome
Folks, I stumbled on to this post in searching around and for what it is worth: I know the father, the son and the rifle. It was and is built as described. It has a drop mag, barrel band swivel and banded front sight with classic safari rear. The barrel was a Taylor from birth. The stock was inletted and checkered from a blank. It, the rifle, was in my home last fall in Kansas, used kill a whitetail buck. It is one of the finest rifles I have had the opportunity to hold. I did not get a chance to shoot it as my ribs were healing up from a horse wreck. Sorry to pop the bubble of the internet slueths housed here but those are the facts.

Look to me like a Masterpiece front sight from NECG, sold also by Brownells. Hella fine and very nice looking. I have them on several rifles. It still makes me sad to think I destroyed the first one I used, because I didn't realize you could size the band with a hammer, and I CUT IT OFF when it got 'stuck' on the barrel! Combined with their classic or Masterpiece adjustable rear express sight, I don't think there is anything classier.

I think the sight was from Brownells but I am not certain. I am certain that the young man who made this rifle from a 98 action, an in the white barrel, and a stock blank is one heck of a classic gun artist. He loves and uses big bore rifles, as does his Dad, and he has a touch on wood that is amazing for his young years. He also built a 505 Gibbs on a CZ action that started life as a 416 Rigby. I have only seen pictures of that one. I am not sure I ever want to shoot it! My shoulder has long term abuse damage and I want to continue enjoying shooting for a few more decades. My own 458 sits unused for several years now. If serious folks would like to make contact with him, I would work that out. My good friend does not take well to being called a liar. Nor do most honest people.
