I recently bought a Ruger No.1 in 45-70 and like all Rugers it came with a set of Ruger rings/bases.
These are the high rings.I was wondering how high they are so I measured them with the calipers and found one is .007 higher than the other.
I have decided that a Leupold VXII 2-7x33 will get the call but I'm think .007 difference is too much.According to Leupolds site I can use Leupolds Ruger Style Low Rings/Bases for this scope/rifle combination.I looked at Burris Signature rings with the plastic insert but didn't care for the looks of them.
Does anyone have any experiance with the Leupold Low Ruger Style rings/bases??? Or any other Ruger scope mounting options???

If I am not mistaken, The Ruger #1V uses Rings of the same height, but it seems like I have owned some models that used rings of different height due to the quarter rib.
Anyone else seen this?

All the Ruger No.1's that I have dealt with had both rings the same. The M77's will have a higher rear ring than the front due to the receiver profile.

I think nothing is better than the Ruger rings on a Ruger. I have some Leupolds for Ruger, but they cannot possibly be as strong as the Ruger rings by Ruger, nor is the Burris, I have tried them too. The No.1 and Mini-14 can use the same rings. With the scope you are using the highs are not required. Try the lows and see if they will work.

0.007" difference between the rings may be a bit sloppy. Or, it may just be an irregularity that lapping would clear up. I have never micro-measured the ring heights, but the Ruger rings always worked fine for me. Try some more Ruger rings.

I have even put Talley bases made to fit Ruger rings on a Pre-64 Winchester, and an FN Mauser. I don't know if he still makes them, but he did once upon a time. This was a recognition of how good the Ruger rings are. Talley only offers the best. And his prices say he is mighty proud of his work.

I think if you call Ruger they will swap you a different set of rings. Seems like I know of someone who's done that. Worth a try.
