no worries a 300gr X will exit on most shots on elk, they make an excellent moose bullet as well, they will also shoot flat when loaded to 2700 or so.I'd stick with the X!

I used a 416 Rigby on elk this fall (325 gr Barnes X at 2900fps) puts 'em down like the "Hammer of Thor!" 300's may be better for the 416RemMag. I have a friend who uses 300's in a 416RemMag for elk but I don't hunt with him so I can't give a first hand account. In any case, I'm thinking it is "enough gun."

I have used the Northforks and they sure put elk down for the count, as do Woodleighs and Noslers...About any bullet in a 416 will kill whatever you shoot with it has been my experience...

I have a 25" barrel on my .416 Remmie and the 300X's do from 2925 to 2975 epending on the load. The only thing I've shot with that load so far has been a whitetail doe. I used 350gr speers on two other deer also. The were running 2625fps. I tried some 325x's through my gun as well but since they were discontinued I didn't work too hard on developing a good load. They were in the 2800fps range. I usually hunt elk with a muzzleloader so the .416 has been my deer gun but I dont think you'd have a problem killing a elk with a 300X.

I have used the 300 grain X bullets in my 416 for sable, kudu, warthog, etc. You should have NO PROBLEMS with this bullet on elk . Jim

I would use a North Fork soft nose if it were my hunt.

North Fork has a 325 gr Soft Point that is specifically designed for elk. That would be my choice.

With my experience with North Fork bullets, I would second that recommendation. At least give them a try. Great bullet performance, use less powder, & won't foul nearly as bad as anything else. www.northforkbullets.comAll the best, Sam
