That lookslike a lot of gun for $4500. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

By Kobus De Vries, whom Craig Boddington says is the world's most talented individual gunbuilder. He may be, but is he using opened up M98 Mauser actions for high pressure (C.I.P. PTmax = 4000 bar = 58,000 psi) Rigby-sized cartridges like this 450 Rigby?

The original 416 Rigbys built on standard actions are still out there and going strong, as are numerous 375 FN Supremes from the 50s. Many of which are converted to higher pressure and or bigger case head cartridges like 416 Remington. Done right, its a non-issue. I agree, maybe it is the (in my oppinion) the less than desireable fiddleback wood that is keeping it from selling for such a low price. 6x NFR Qualifier NFR Champion Reserve World Champion Bareback Rider PRCA Million Dollar Club 02' Salt Lake Olympic Qualifier and an all around good guy!

Not exactly a non-issue. The .416 Rigby pressures are 10,000 psi lower than 450 Rigby pressures. .375 H&H uses a smaller casehead at only 4000 psi greater than the 450 Rigby. A member here had setback of a 500 Jeffery bolt in a standard M98, supposedly one that was built properly, in RSA, but loaded with data from ar.com.

Ditto's Rip, this rifle should not be built on a M98, it's marginal at best, it is an issue. I know of one PH who has one of his rifles in a 500 Jeffery, he's had no problems yet but he knows it's a weak design, he is going to sale it sometime in the future and have Kobus build it on a magnum length action. If it set back, it wasn't done right, RIP. But this discussion is about as resolvable as Ford/Chevy/Dodge or 45-70s for DG. Dirklawyer, so this PH you know has a rifle he feels is unsafe, continues to use it for now (must be a thrill seeker) and plans to unload it on some unsuspecting buyer when he gets a chance... I had some e-mail communications on this rifle with the owner, but there is no documentation on who built this rifle...so I did not pursue it any farther. Maybe Vries built it and maybe he did not...no documents proving it. However, it is a nice rifle and I also questioned myself as to whether the action was up to the task with the 450 Rigby. Like I said...I passed on it. Just is not worth the risk with 4500.00.
