Anyone who can tell me what kind of barrel I need for my sub .458 Socom-project? I'm going for my short Rem 700, and I'm going to use mostly 405grs Rem, and 500grs Hornady -bullets. I specially want to know if I can use a 1:14" twist, or do I HAVE to have a 1:8" twist? Opinions please? *Treat problems like a dog; Take a sniff ..... If it can't be killed, eaten, or fucked? Just pie on it, and walk on!:-) Arild.

No. The Norwegian .458 Socom vouge was created by a man who wanted to stabilize very heavy mono bullets at sub sonic velocities. I am making one now in 1-14 on a Ruger 14, and I have no doubts. Our friend Pluto had no problems sub'ing his .45 Blaser, and that was not 1-8. 1-14 is recomanded by many Socom-makers in the US. Bent Fossdal Reiso 5685 Uggdal Norway

OK. It sure make the avaliability for a barrel easier. I'll just pick a Douglas-barrel for it. You dont have a barrel lying around, Bent? *Treat problems like a dog; Take a sniff ..... If it can't be killed, eaten, or fucked? Just pie on it, and walk on!:-) Arild.

Visit www.300whisper.com to visit the quarterbore forums. Plenty of experience their with all forms of subsonic rounds. Their is quite a large thread specific on the 45acp.
