In the last week or so I have had reason to do a lot of searching around the internet on gun related stuff and as you know you come across all sorts of things.

The 375 Wby must be just about the most universally endorsed calibre out there but the endorsement seems to rarely manifest itself as a rifle. In the case of Wby it is easy to understand as it is strictly a custom shop deal. But there seems to be very few 375 Wbys in other rifles.

I guess the enthusiasm dies when it comes to the mucking about to rechamber. Dies would be expensive, I think they are Group G with RCBS.

I have a nice custom BRNO 602. MPI stock and powder coating action/barrel. Good caliber.

IMHO, the 375 H&H Improved in it's various permutations is a great cartridge. A lot of people shy away from the "Kalifornia Kool" styling of the Wbee rifles.

What does the 375 bee offer that the H&H does not? Maybe I am missing the point here.

About what a 300 H&H offers over a 30-06, by comparison. I had one and while it was a fine rifle, I can't say it provided an edge over the standard 375 that I couldn't live without.

"Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

I think what I meant was on a practical basis not necessarily on a paper basis.

If you want to play with 350-grain bullets the bit extra room for powder may be interesting. My .375 Wby is a reamed out (from H&H) ZKK 602 Brno.

What loads have you tried in yours? Any favorite powders/bullets?

but doesn't the fact that hunters have premium constructed bullets mean lower velocities can offer penetration that is very dependable. for instance, the 338-06 seems to allow the hunter to use 210 grain bullets as effectively as old 250s. know what I mean?

If you have a 375 Wby or 375 Ackley Improved you can:

1) Shoot factory 375 H&H and drop a 100 f/s

2) Load the 375 Wby/AI to duplicate 375 H&H top end ballistics but with less pressure and also with a greater variety of powder.

3) Load 300 grainers from 2750 to 2800 depending on whether 24" or 26" barrel and in the process duplicate the ballistics Saeed uses from his 375/404.

In other words the 375 Wby/AI user can be real lazy with everything.

My 24" barreled .375AI wasn't worth it. 90grs of powder under a 300gr bullet would just break the 2700fps level. A buddy of mine shooting a 22" standard .375H&H was right at 2600 and 300grainers with 15 less grains of powder.

I agree with Tiggertate, ain't enough better than the already awesome .375 to bother with.

I am awaiting my 375 CZ back from Dennis Olson. DG aside, most people say the 375's effect on shot game (assuming proper placement) is really quite something to see.

Personally, I love the DRT. Can other concur with the effect of their's on game?

IanD

350-grain Woodleigh PRP / 81 grains IMR 4831 / CCI 250 primer @ 3.585" OAL gives me a full load I can crimp at the cannelure, 2400 fps.

I tried 75-grains W 760 with RHINO 350- and 380-grainers @2250 fps, but the Woodleighs gave me problems with the recoil forcing the bullet further into the case with dangerous results, so I wanted something else.

Also I had pressure signs with H4831SC loaded to where the bullets would stay put crimped at the cannelure. Mr. Atkinson and RIP figure highly in my .375 considerations. (Obviously speed isn't all that high on my list -- more "African" in my priorities.)
