Use a BRNO 602 (magnum) action or CZ 550 magnum action, just like AHR does.

If you want to use a Mauser action and can not afford/pick up a magnum length then, according to my Gunsmith, the VZ24 is one of the best to use. The P14/M17 Enfield's are a good choice.

Easy fix, put in the AHR single stage trigger. It's wonderful.

One of the beauties of the 404 is that it can be built on a standard length Mauser, like the originals. No need for heavy, cumbersome magnum length actions.

I understand the cumbersome part, but whats the actual difference in weight between the two actions?

A magnum action is always my choice, I don't want a fwt 404 J, I like a 9.5 to 10 lb. rifle and properly built it not bulky or clumsy..I consider a 404 on a 98 action a blivit, that's 10 lbs of poop in a 5 lb. bag...I believe the mag mauser makes a better 404 or 416, they feed better and smoother and you have room to seat bullet out. I know it can be done, and if that's ones choice then have at it, but my head is made up! shocker
