Hi all, as long as I have my 470 project torn apart, I think I should put a bit of weight in the stock. The gun is at 9lb 2oz now. so I'm thinking that another 1 lb of lead might be a good idea. Recoil is a bit on the brisk side. Could I just drill a hole in the butt under the buttplate and pour molten lead into it? Or would this burn the wood? Maybe some shot in the hole and some acraglass poured in on top of it? I was in the gun shop yesterday and they showed me a finger recoil pad. It's a strechy band with padding on one side. I'm hopeing it will work as my middle finger is hammered and swolen. The package said Brownells on it. Anyone tried one of these?

Also be aware that changes in the weight of the stock can influence the regulation of a double.

Use Tungsten rods of proper diameter in both the butt stock and the forearm if there is enough room. My shooting partner has a 500 Nitro that he has modified as stated and it brings the recoil factor down to a very tolerable level where it may be construed as FUN!!
