What barrel lengths do all the DGR rifles out there have? Ones you own or ones you have fired or seen-Anything from 9.3 up.

Karl.

My 50 Alaskan lever action has a 20 in barrel. It has an AO aperture sight setup with a welded on scout mount on the barrel. Cheers! Ming

Karl,
Good to see you back on the threads.

I think anything less than 22" is ridiculous and anything more than 26" is unnecessary.

These measures are of the total barrel including the threaded portion screwed into the receiver.

That said, I like 23" on the short side and 25" on the long side, and could just as well do with 24" for any big game bolt action rifle, whether DGR or not.

With a double rifle, anything from 24" to 28" is cool.

Of course the balance and handling and weight of the barrel figure in too.

You handicap the cartridge with a too short barrel. I think it is nonsense to whack the barrels off below 22" in the quest for a quick handling brush gun or DGR. Pure Rubbish.

It all boils down to personal choice..I like 26" barrels because they handle better for offhand shooting. I do have a 416 Rem. by Searcy that just fits me to a T and it has a 22" barrel...4"'s of barrel one way or the other makes not one bit of difference if the gun balances and feels good..Most of mine are 26" and one is 27" and its my favorite. Heck, my pocket knife is longer than the argueable 4"'s.....

I have a 22 inch barrel on my 458 Lott, a 26 inch barrel on my 375 Weatherby, and a 25 inch barrel on my 470Capstick. I dislike short barrels, they just seem to jump around to much and balance is off too for my liking.

My CZ .416 has a 25.5" barrel and I like it. My .585 will have a 26" barrel, not including break. I thought I can always lop off but I can not add back.

My preferred length is 25 - 27 inches.

I have owned from 20 - 27.5 in calibers from 416 Rigby to 505 Gibbs.

585 22.5
416 rem 24
50 bmg 20 (go figure, it was cheap)
358 in 20, 22, 24
257 roberts, 24
300 win 25

I seem to like the overall length to matter as will. 46 to 40 seems to work.
