Here is a first peek at two new cartridges forthcoming from us. Well, one is new, the other is a rebirth. Also, we have received the dies for 5 more cartridge, just have not had a chance to anneal and form brass

First, the 10mm IAI Magnum, also called the 10mm Auto Mag Pistol. Essentially, the longest 10mm pistol case around. We use this case to form the .338 Spectre and noted how well it fits in the 6.8 SPC magazines as they share the same head dimension. Shown is the empty case, the Barnes 195 gr MV bullet, seated to 1.742 to allow 28 rounds to double stack in the PRI mags, and then the rather puny looking 10mm with the Hornady 155 gr HP/XTP.

35000 psi max, 32 gr water capacity, with the 195 Barnes as shown, anticipated velocities are:
1600 fps from a 10.5"
1800 fps from a 16"
With the 155 gr XTP about 2100 fps from a 16" barrel.
Gas operated, should do well for home defense .... gunsmile

The big one ... 470 Rhino. Shown are the 500 Phantom, the 470 Rhino and the 500 Jeffery (the parent case). Meant for use in the AR-10, with a slightly more rebated rim, trim length 2.00", loaded to 2.80", with 99.5 gr water capacity.

At 55000 psi, with the 500 gr Barnes RN-SP, from a 20" barrel about 2130 fps and from a 24" barrel about 2200 fps. Solid 470NE performance from an 8 round semi-auto mag fed repeater. Ideal for back up when the hunt has gone sour, or when something needs to be stopped dead in its tracks or on its wheels. With the 325 gr HP/XTP and the 24" barrel, a frightening 2700 fps .... eek2

In this Rhino series, we are also forming the 450 Rhino, the 416 Rhino, the 375 Rhino and the 338 Rhino ....

And some folks think we have gone a little too far nut

The 500 Phalanx interests me a lot. I was only only measuring a 500 jeffrey yesterday to look into shortneing it down to fit in a WSM magazine. Is a 2.00" case with .500"-.510" bullet still available? How about dies etc? I have a spare gun which is just begging for a conversion like this.

The .510 Phalanx is based on the .585 Nyati (or 577 parent case). Trimmed to 2.00 and necked to .510, we have made about 7 prototype cases. Of those, the ones using Bertram brass were useless due to splitting, concentricity problems, overall poor brass quality. Those made using Horneber parent cases were a bear to form but turned out nice. We never did get the reamer made, only the dies, as we found that the action we wanted to use would not allow the size of the Nyati case, and we ended up with the Phantom based on the Jeffery. We did not make a .510 diameter, 2.00" version of the Jeffery, only the .470, .450, .416, .375 and .338 ....

We would be happy to share the drawings on the .510 Phalanx with you and dies should be on the shelf at www.ch4d.com

If you do end up having the reamer made and chambering a rifle, please let us know how she shoots

Ive had a look at your website and saw the ballistics of the short 500 Phantom and it suprises me. It would be great for a close range stopper.Nearly 2600 fps with a 50 cal 300gn bullet for 4468 ft/lbs energy which will fit in a WSM action. I suppose being able to be loaded to 60000 PSI with fast burning powder will do that. Sounds like a great round to make up a 18" barrel carbine for pigs,Sambar, bears etc. Have you fitted one to a WSM action? How did it feed? How many rounds fit in a WSM magazine?
How much does brass ,reamer and dies cost?

The short cased Phantom has a VERY strong web, I would suspect we could load well beyond 60000 psi, closer to 70000 probably, but why hurt the action that way, right? Not sure what a Sambar is but it will certainly do a number on feral hogs. We have built a Rem 700 and a Savage 110 in this caliber, the Rem 700 had an 18" barrel, the Savage a 24" barrel. Both were set up as single shot, did not attempt to modify magazine. Have not tried it in a WSM bolt gun, so cannot tell you how it would work.

Brass is around $3 a piece
Reamer is custom made, listed as proprietary to us, Manson charges around $300 for reamer + HS gauges
Dies are on the order of $150 from CH4D

I will send you an email about ordering a few bits of brass to try in a WSM magazine. $300 for the reamer sounds pretty steep though. If the cases work in a WSM magazine I will look further into getting a reamer /dies etc.

BTW a Sambar is a large deer ,similar to but bigger than a red deer, usualy found in very dense bush. A short barreled gun with a decent weight bullet would be right for Sambar

I will answer your Email shortly, got my hands full with little people ... playing Mr. Mom this week ... on the cost of reamer and hs gauges, custom reamer with removable pilot is $190, go gauge $48, no go gauge $48, total $298 ...

The 500 Phantom or the bigger Rhinos seems like they would be tremendous overkill for deer size game, our .458 SOCOM is ample to take those and those fit in a 223 size action .... 300 gr bullet at 2000 fps from a 16" AR-15 carbine ...
